Guest guest
Hi Stuart, I have lived in So. Calif. most of my life (plus born and raised here) Formerly I lived in the Los Angeles area, now I'm just a few hours drive north in Santa Barbara. As for weather, there's no snow - unless you go to the mountains for skiing, etc. Rain, well, sometimes, only in winter - in the past Jan. and Feb produced the rain. Go figure for now. Not much rain at all. I lived fairly close to the coast, and still do, so there can be early morning and evening fog, which brings some humidity, and is actually welcomed. Summer days in the valleys can be hot and dry. Summer days are cooler nearer the coast. Los Angeles did have some pretty murky smog. As far back as high school I remember inhaling and it 'stinging' my lungs. That was years ago (1960s) and while L.A. still has it's smog, it doesn't bother me like that. Living in SB County is alot cleaner air, and a more rural community. Once in awhile an earthquake or an out of control fire rattles me emotionally. I'm sure you'll hear from other So. Californian's on this. ~ Gretchen

Guest guest
I live in San Diego near the coast. I think everywhere has their seasons, it's just that in some locations the changes are more subtle than in others. Where I live, we don't have air conditioning, we have ocean breezes. A couple miles inland people start to run A/C during the summer. I prefer to be warm over cold, and would much rather be too warm than too cold. I definately suffer from the barometer effect. The days before rain I become achy and uncomfortable. When it is warm and dry I'll sometimes forget that I have aches and pains. In winter it's easy to tell the locals from the tourists. The locals are tan and bundled up in down parkas, while the tourists are pale, wearing shorts and t-shirts. If you're thinking about moving here, be prepared for sticker shock. Real estate prices are a frequent topic of conversation. O BTW, I manage a vacation rental condo on the ocean front here in Mission Beach. It is surprisingly vacant from now until Memorial day, but it's warming up so that could change fast. It's 2 bedroom 2 bath, and sleeps six. It is a second story unit, so climbing stairs is necessary. If you think you'd be interested, I can offer some pretty good off season rates. Email me if you're interested in knowing more. joltman1@...
Guest guest
My daughter lives near San Diego. She loves it when the locals wear a scarf around their necks but have sandals on their feet. She is originally from the Desert.
