Guest guest
I have posted there in the past that the NIH is interested in possibly studying this. Most people who are on that site have hyperacusis and not 4S. Those who go there and mention the 4S part I usually try to refer to this place because I think this is a more appropriate place for them. Sometimes I get the impression that some on that site think 4S (actually they refer to it as Misophonia because they don't think it's any different than that) think that if we just go to therapy than it will solve the problem. But I can post it again on the various soft sound sensitivity threads there so that those in the future that I miss could see it. I think it's a good idea. Ingrid... could you type out Dr. Brewers e-mail addy she has set up for me but put a space in between the name and the .com part so that the whole address shows up? For some reason when an e-mail address is typed out it never shows up completely on the e-mails sent out or this board. All I can see is soundsensitivity@ and that's all. Thanks!! > > Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to let the people in the Hyperacusis > Network know that Dr. Carmen Brewer is considering setting up a study. Guest guest
Hi Darlene, and everyone... Hi. It seems to me that Dr. Brewer is interested in studying sound sensitivity in general, not just 4S. So sufferers of different types of hyperacusis would have an interest in this study, and potentially help boost our chances of this research actually going ahead. Dr. says that the sudden onset of 4S and the way 4S impact on lives can be quite different from other types of hyperacusis/sound sensitivity, and we need a separate support group because of the different challenges we face. But do we KNOW if there are similarities in the underlying cause or 4S and other sound sensitivities/hyperacusis? I get a bit confused when there are so many theories flying around, and find it hard to keep hold of the facts. Darlene here is the email address you were after...thanks for getting onto this. soundsensitivity AT nidcd.nih.gov. It's great that you tell people on the Hyperacausis site about this site - you did that for me and I will always be grateful to you for that. The Hyperacusis site has a higher Google ranking than this site, so unless we create a more search engine optimized site, people looking for this group, are likely to go to the Hyperacusis site first.
