Guest guest
Geri, You are on the right track as far as the paper goes. Putting together thoughts and comments from a lot of people is a big undertaking, but from what I have read so far within this list, you are the one to do it. I will help in any way that I can. Just do it and worry about the form later. I have a friend who is taking writing courses to write novels. He has written one novel (not published) and several short stories that have won prizes. He is very knowledgeable and would be willing to give me some pointers to help put this thing together. Start by having everyone send you their case history as you already suggested. That should be the first chapter. Maybe several chapters! I will be very happy to assist you in any way that I can, just ask. But, please do this. It sounds like something that needs to be done! I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall until I found this group!!!! No one that I know (and I know a lot of people) had ever heard of AIH, including me. Awareness is the key to good health care for any disorder. If we need to move a mountain, then so be it. Let's get started. Bless you, Ginger
Guest guest
Don, You hit the nail on the head with that letter to KKay.!! I want to work oh, so badly. I owned my on house cleaning business before AIH. I slowly lost it over the past year. I have been unable to work now for two months and I am going nuts! When I was working a couple of days a week or more, I would work one day, then stay in bed the next and so on. It was the only way to get thru the week. I am still waiting for some help from SSI and SSDI. I am holding on to my house by the skin of my teeth in that I have a very generous sister and some very good friends. Not all of us are that lucky. Well, I think I got a little wound up that time. Sorry. Hope you get my drift. Ginger

Guest guest
Hi all, I have been printing out some of the letters since I joined this group. My first thought when reading your letters was I have a home, that its not pity, or I have to worry of what I say like I do from my friends and family. Of course at times I feel like I am obsessed with what happened to me and I want to talk about it, however most people tune you out after what they think your time has been allotted. And I can't really hold this against these people, it does get old. Yet I will have to deal with my emotions and feelings and all that goes along with liver failure for the rest of my life. I would like to think my family will support me forever but they won't. I feel this has a lot to do with education, and shareing. All of you should send your story to the web site dedicated to your pictures you all sent, that would be a start. Gayle
Guest guest
Ginger, Thanks for the offer to help. Someone suggested sending the story to Joan's website where there are photos of some of us, but not everyone uses Internet and that might limit the exposure I'd like to see it have. I think it can read very well and perhaps even become " riveting " . Most people have no idea about what people with serious chronic diseases are going through, and of course, almost no one has any idea that autoimmune liver diseases even exist. I'll keep you - everyone - posted as I go along and welcome all input. I have a friend who is a scriptwriter (The Highlander series, among others). He also writes documentaries and has had a couple of books published. I haven't talked to him for a couple of years, but he's pretty sharp when it comes to promoting and he might be able to find time to help. Writers are notoriously poor or struggling to keep from being poor. Either way, they're always busy. Still.... Take care, Geri

Guest guest
> I think you might be asking for too much - and you want it simple. It > ain't simple - can't be and shouldn't be - otherwise, too many folks > would be in the business and become successful in a few months. This person didnt say they wanted this soap making venture to be easy..they asked for people to answer their questions in easy to understand terms. For goodness sake, your huge post is beyond rude to this person. Im pretty sure you were not born with all the wisdom and knowledge of this buisness...so give this newbie a break & get off your high horse and be nice...or just ignore this person and go about your day...no sence ruining this persons day over something you find so intollerable. And PS to you...my father raised 4 kids, we always had a roof over our heads, food on our tables and clean cloths on our back..and a nice vacation every summer...on his PLUMBER salary..go figer this eh?? My dad is also a retired Army Officer (dutch army)..he'd kick yer arse for saying mean things like you did to people who are opening themselves to learn from others. At least this person had the guts to come forth with out knowledge and risk ridicule from rude insensitive people like you...and that...i commend her for doing. Maybe you should enroll yourself in HOW TO ACT LIKE A NICE HUMAN 101??
Guest guest
hi I work in a daycare and believe it or not the lice are not responding to anything that is out there. The parents have to us that you need to smoother there head with vaseline and put a cap on there head for an hour or so. Then go out and use automotive hand cleaner that guys use and get it with that. Then take dawn dish soap and wash there hair. Now this is the last thing is take a tsp of bleach and water in a cup and go through the hair with that. You also have to pick out all the dead eggs and believe me it works have a good day debi Debi s Home Page

Now >this is the last thing is take a tsp of bleach and water in a cup and go >through the hair with that. You also have to pick out all the dead eggs >and believe me it works >have a good day >debi Please, before you douse your children's heads in vaseline, degreaser, and bleach, let me give you a few other options. First of all, Butch posted an excellent site the other day. http://www.wingedseed.com/Agora/Lice_page.htm Great information and solid research. Second, please allow me to give you my standard message: We've been through this a couple of times. I have resolved not to bother with the over-the-counter stuff anymore. The vermin have grown resistant to it, and I couldn't bring myself to douse my kids' heads in poison for nothing. What finally worked for us: - - Mix about 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint and tea tree essential oils into a goodly amount of shampoo. Wash the child's hair (careful of their eyes) and let the shampoo sit on their hair for five minutes or so. - - Put conditioner, olive oil, etc. on the child's head and leave it on. - - Get under a really good light, daylight is best, and start combing. The oil/conditioner helps keep the hair in place, so you can keep track of where you have already picked. Comb through the hair with one of those little fine-toothed combs. Any lice combed out should be carefully disposed of; a little tub of hot water, with some left over shampoo and tea tree EO works. - - After you have combed their hair thoroughly, you start the rough part. You have to look at every strand of hair and pick off every single nit (egg) you find. And let me tell you, those puppies are glued on tight. If your child has long hair, you could be there a while. Try not to get too tired. Play the radio, make jokes, anything to try and make the time pass easier. - - After you get their hair reasonably clear, wash or rinse out the conditioner/oil. - - While this fun activity is going on, strip all the beds, wash bedding and pillows in hot water and dry as hot as possible. Vacuum all rugs, upholstered furniture, everywhere you can think of, all over the house. To the best of my knowledge nothing will kill nits. That is the part that the over-the-counter pesticides gloss over. It's no big deal to shampoo and comb out the lice. It's picking out all those little bitty eggs that will wear you out. It doesn't hurt to shampoo everybody in the house with the essential oil mixture and comb their hair carefully. Once you get rid of them, do a careful combing at least once a week, after the child washes their hair. That way you can catch them early, if they re-occur. ______________________ Rick and Sandy Waldrop waldrop@... ______________________
Guest guest
I wanted to remark on the olive oil soap. I don't know who originally brought this up but i do an olive oil baby soap. what i found when i was formulating this soap with sap values and all is that i use about 10 grams less lye than my recipe came up with. now this was a 12 pound recipe. but of course i added more olive oil at trace. what happens for some reason with olive oil is after it saponifies it will become brittle. so you really have to watch it. but since all my soaps use olive oil as the main ingredient i have had to reduce the lye in all my recipes. but i would say that it is worth all the trouble because the end product is nice and hard and very mild. take care sunny _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
nne, Well, olive oil takes a very long time to trace (sometimes days, I've heard!). but I think that if you use a stick blender it cuts back dramatically on the trace time. In case you don't know what trace is, I'll tell you. trace is the stage where the lye is neutralized and the soap thickens to a point where soap, when dribbled on the top of the mix, stays on top for a few moments. Hot process soap turns to thick applesauce when it comes to trace. HTH! Whitney

Guest guest
Hi all, I just wanted to share that Target has GREAT glass jars with nice wide necks. Would they be called ginger jars,(I dont think so)? They are the type that you see in old fashioned candy stores or in the health food store. Anyway, they have 1 gallon size and what I think is a 2-3 gallon size, (I'm not sure). Thats what I use. Big enough on top to get my hands into but not so big that a paper towel wont fit on top with a rubber band. They are in the section where th kitchen items/decorating items are. Not with the dishes and such. Have a great day, Kathy __________________________________________________
