Fascinating Doctor Visit

I got to help teach Baylor College of Medicine's future doctors about

CMT 2A today. I have the most amazing doctor, Kwan. He brought

me into a classroom of over 30 med school students to have them

examine me and guess what I have. It was kind of fun stumping a lot of them. I

hope they all learned more about CMT.

I had a regular doctor visit after that. It seems I do have some minor sensory

loss in my right hand now, so I am going for an EMG just for that arm/hand. This

frustrates me, because I am a musician (mostly playing marimba anad ukulele).

Dr. Kwan was encouraging about that, though. He said it is good that I am not a

pianist. That might be much harder. He seems to think that I should be able to

continue to do what I am doing because of what he knows about late onset CMT2A.

Whew. That's a relief. He also said that he was impressed with the strength of

my legs.

He recommended adding 1000 MG of vitamin C 2X per day, 400 IUs of

Vitamin E a day, and Melatonin to the supplements that I am already

taking. I am also going to get a hearing test, as it looks like the

CMT might be affecting that too. We'll see.

If you are in or near Houston, I highly recommend Dr. Kwan. I hear all of these

stories about bad doctors. Dr. Kwan is certainly not one of them. He always

spends lots of time with me answering my questions and he knows his stuff. You

should have seen him teaching those med students! It feels comforting to be in

good hands even when not too much can be done.

Oh! And they also have a physical therapist there in the office. Apparently, a

custom made arch support will help with this pain in my left foot. That's good!

I will update on my EMG and hearing test when they are complete.
