Guest guest
Hi All, Those of you that have AFOs or AFO how high is it on your calf, and how low can they be made to still work? I just hate feeling like my calf is in a cast all day.. .I don't want or need any more weakness in my left leg.. Thanks to all of you. Stay well, Elaine

Guest guest
Hello Elaine, I wear AFO' on both legs and they go above the calfs. To be honest they certainly help but despite what professionals have said it does cause a lot of atrophy. Since it acts as a cast of sorts it stablilizes your calfs and ankle so it doesn't have to work so naturally it will atrophy. It also eventually makes it so you can't walk wihout them. They are necessary though and does help me walk with a more normal gait. It took me a while to adjust to them because my feet are so sensitive and it really hurt the bottom of my feet but in time you don't even notice you are wearing them. Before the AFOs I used shoes that tied up high similar to military shoes but being a guy I was able to wear my pants over them and they were actually in style. Best of luck with whatever you choose.
