Guest guest
As I sit here 8 months pregnant with obviously high levels of progesterone in my body, I began to wonder about the role of progesterone levels and CMT. I understand that there is research being done using progesterone blockers on CMT1A and if I am understanding it correctly, the decreased levels of progesterone lessened the severity/progression of the disease. My question is: if progesterone is the regulator of the PMP22 gene, would it also be the regulator of other genes...specifically, the LITAF/SIMPLE gene. (This is the gene that they found a mutation in me which currently lables me as one of the few, but lucky " CMT1C " folks. I have read that CMT1C appears to be clinically identical to CMT1A, even though there are two different genes involved. Does this mean that anti-progesterone treatment might help someone with CMT1C too? Does it mean that the Vitamin C treatment might help someone with CMT1C? My CMT was " activated " and progressed RAPIDLY while I was pregnant with my first child. Three years later, I am pregnant with a second baby and have not noticed any progression/exacerbation during this pregnancy, though I know that my progesterone levels are high. Can't help but see a strong link here. If anyone has info on this, PLEASE ADVISE! THANKS!!!! Amy
