Guest guest
Hi, this is a message in reply to Sally but really for everyone. If the calves are tight, this pulls the body forward and out of alignment. When the body goes forward, the feet compensate, kind of balling up to maintain balance - toes curl, arches raise - this is due to the feet muscles trying to stabilise for the problems caused by tight calves. Then as a result the hamstrings also tighten. This pulls the pelvic area out of alignment, and the back. So the short of it is, stretch the ankles and calves really well, and also the three hamstrings. The positive benefits are enormous. Yoga is great for this, so too are alternative methods of stretching such as AIS which is done with usually a sports massage therapist. I did not pay attention for about 6 months and started feeling like I was walking stiff like enstein. I went to an AIS practitioner again yesterday and the feeling of mobility that returned after just an hour and a half of hard work was amazing. I swear I need to build this into my daily routines. It is such a benefit - no matter the age. All the best, Donna from London
