Guest guest
Hi All, I really need some information/help here. My son starts High School next year and I have requested the school either do a 504 or IEP. Right now he has accommodations for middle school but they are not formal. I just received an email from the IS teacher. She wants to use the fact that Ethan has ADD to get a 504 not the fact that he is physically disabled due to CMT. I said ADD has nothing to do with it. She said " You would think that would be the case. The school physcologist told me that a physical disability doesn't qualify a child for a 504 unless it impacts him educationally. Ethan doesn't have a learning disability, so he doesn't qualify for an IEP. ADD and ADHD children absolutely qualify for a 504, so that is why I went that route. " Does this make sense? It does impact him educationally, he can not write he has to use a lap top. He has to have someone take notes for him in math class. He walks slow and needs extra time to get around. He can't keep up in gym class. I could go on but I am sure you all know the problems. Any suggestions?? I read the information someone posted from the Dept. of Ed and it seems that they are incorrect. Thanks
