Guest guest
Hi , thank you for the response. Sherri also maintains in school. Her major difficulty is with math. I think one of the biggest problems we have right now, is that she realizes that she is different. She asked me last week if she could get her eyes fixed.(her eyes are slightly almond shaped). What do I say? If I don't do it, will she resent me? Or, if I do it, will she think I don't love her the way she is? Which is beautiful and courageous. Love to hear back from you, Glenda
Guest guest
Glenda - I feel for you on this decision - My daughter is only 2 but I worry about her fitting in. Maybe you could suggest if she still feels this way at 18 or 21 then get the surgery. I only remember how much I hated everything that made me different at 14 - if I could have I would have changed my name because it was different. Now that I am older, I love my name. Maybe when she is older she will like her eyes. has slightly almond shaped eyes (it is the only reason she was diagnosed) but they are so beautiful and my sister would love to have cosmetic surgery to change her eyes to 's shape. (My sister has sad puppy dog eyes). I realize each situation is different and only you will know if this would be a significant boost to her self esteem or just a quick fix - everybody at school has already seen her just as she is - changing the outside doesn't necessarily change the inside or the way you feel about yourself. I do know that if obsesses about her web toes - I will get them corrected - but that is also a much smaller surgery and more beneath the covers. Good Luck on your decision. Darlene - Mom to (will be 2 in 3 weeks) and 4. Re: Welcome to the group Hi , thank you for the response. Sherri also maintains in school. Her major difficulty is with math.
