Guest guest
I raise my own chicken and most of eggs do not have to be washed because of fresh litter in the nesting boxes and frequent collecting.(My children love to see if there are any many times a day) If one does have manure on it I will wash it in water that is the same temp as the egg. No soap or anthing else. _______________________________________________________________ Get the FREE email that has everyone talking at http://www.mail2world.com <-----Original Message-----> > > From: vonhoff2 > Sent: 2/13/2002 6:15:14 PM > > Subject: Eggs and Doo > > > > > > Hello, > > > > I have a convenient and inexpensive source of farm fresh eggs. Guest guest
Hi Jamay, Wash your eggs In COOL water. Eggs have a natural invisible cuticle that will wash off with warm water and/or soap. If necessary you can let them soak for a little while in a bowl of cold water and use a soft cloth if they need a little extra help. You could also just leave them poopey in your refrigerator and wash them with soapy water just before you break the shells. Some folks probably can't deal with seeing poopy eggs every time they open the fridge. The idea is to leave the protective cuticle intact until you use the eggs. As you say, the farmer may leave them dirty for a good reason. I have read it's best to just wait and wash them just before you use them. I used to give my extra eggs away without washing them and people were rather disgusted. So I just went ahead and washed them instead of trying to explain it to them.... The farmer does not clean the eggs off (for a good reason, in my mind) and so some of the eggs have chicken fecal material on them. What is the proper and best way to clean eggs? I use raw eggs and want to make the best attempt I can at keeping the manure out of the food! Thanks, Jamay >>>>>
Guest guest
I've read that if you use water to wash them with the matter can penetrate the shell into the egg. I use a fine grit sandpaper when necessary it it works great.
