Guest guest
Nina, Can you just simply tell them that you cannot walk that far? I'm sure there is 'age appropriate' language you can use to keep it simple. Seems tho you may be missing out on activities. If you don't drive because of your legs, check some of our past archived posts about driving with hand controls. I don't know if you wear AFOs or the like, but if not, these may give you the power to walk. Or if you use a wheelchair, there are vans specially equipped with lifts, also parks and other public places are accessible. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Nina, Children are pretty astute when it comes to disabilites. My son used to tell his friends at preschool that I walk funny because I have bad legs. He was very active and would run fast down the street, but would stop at the curb knowing I would not be able to catch up, but as soon as I got within reaching distance, then he would leap out! He also learned at a very young age at how to pull mommy by the hand to help her walk faster! Actually, he knows how to help me over any obstacle better than anyone else in my life and I always feel confident when he is helping me walk. Of course, he is 18 now. Do you have a scooter or power wheelchair? A scooter really helped me with being able to attend my son's athlethic games (when he got older) and if I had needed it wheh he was young, I would not hesitate to do that. How old are your kids? They might have fun pulling mommy in a wagon? Jackie

Guest guest
My youngest holds my hand to help me The older ones always make sure nothing is in my way and always offer help. I think a lot has to do with my husband. He has always taught them to be helpful and look out for me.
