Guest guest
My son has finally stopped wetting the bed every night. I wish I could tell you the reason. Basically, we have been dealing with this for so long. I was beginning to think it was a permanent situation or else I was going to have to quit the meds.He is ten now. Dr G many times said he wanted to wait a little longer before giving him DDAP (I believe this is the right acronym) He said he's still you young. He occasionally has accidents but they are getting fewer and farther between. HTH, Jerri > > Cheryl, > > No you're not the only one that has this problem long term. Guest guest
Thanks Jerri, That your son has been through this same thing and it is getting better is encouraging to me. My son is 7 and this bed wetting problem started when he was 5 1/2. I too am beginning to wonder if this will ever go away. Dr. G has even started talking about giving him a RX for the bedwetting. (Is DDAP the medication he's referring to?) I don't want to have to do that. Anyway, even though your son is 10 and I realize we may have this problem for a long while, I found you post comforting. As a mom, sometimes I get worried and just picture him having this problem into adulthood. April Re: Re: Zoloft > > Thanks, I don't feel so crazy anymore. Guest guest
Our 6 year old son has never had any bed wetting side effects from his SSRI or Tenex medications. Keep in mind, the research shows bed wetting is a common characteristic of younger ages boys anyhow. It may or may not be because of his medication. I have worked with countless typical children that also have bed wetting issues simply because it is developmentally normal. Could just be a phase? Guest guest
Hi, Nope. It's the meds. My son was overnight dry well before he was daytime trained. The bed wetting started years after he was staying dry through the night and there is no family history of bed wetting. Side effects are different for everyone; I'm glad that your son doesn't suffer this, but mine does and it's definitely because of the medications. My son has been with Dr. G for almost 4 and a half years but didn't start having the chronic bed-wetting problem until almost 2 years ago. He used to only have bed wetting for a couple of weeks (up to a month) when we would switch SSRIs or the dose of an SSRI. Then it stuck and just didn't go away about the time we added the tennex. We've switched SSRIs a couple of times since with no improvement which is why I think tennex has something to do with it. Thanks anyhow. Like I said before, it's just one of those things. You take the good with the bad. My son has made excellent progress under Dr. Goldberg's care. I'm just surprised that this seems to alarm you guys. I can't remember the last time I've gotten so many responses from one of my posts. I thought this must be a pretty common problem with these meds because of the deep sleep they can cause. Guess I was wrong? Thanks again for all the reponses. Maybe I should take him to see a urologist? Guest guest
Oh, he now has to wear a pull up at night now, too! He was previously night and day dry. One thing I've noticed over the last few days since this thread started was that he absolutely does urinate more frequently. I swear, he can empty a full bladder and 5 minutes later empty another full bladder. And it seems to come on *quick* like he just can't do anything about it but go where he is... He is starting to get better as we get closer to the 3 week mark so I'm assuming it will dwindle back down (only to go up again when we up the dosage, I'm sure). I'll let you know if it doesn't stop after we've gotten to full dose. Maybe then you can figure out which is causing it. Guest guest
April, I don't think you need to see a urologist. We have seen the urination issues with med changes, SSRIs I think but never thought about it maybe being both the ssri and the Tenex. Is Dr G concerned? He has never acted concerned about this with us...I am guessing because it is like maybe losing this battle but winning the war. > > Hi, > > Nope. It's the meds. Guest guest
Not sure if this helps, but once my little guy came off of SSRIs he stopped wetting the bed at night and I also noticed that he was less thirsty during the day (by about a third of his intake of liquids while on meds). He also goes to the bathroom less frequently during the day. In our case, it was the meds for sure and I would bet it is for your son too. Good luck, Rhoda Re: Zoloft > > > Our 6 year old son has never had any bed wetting side effects from his SSRI or Tenex medications.
