Guest guest
Yes, use your disability as a 'card' to get special treatment, because you must stick up for yourself, as most others will be clueless. When I was still very ambulatory, and traveled a lot for business, I would get pre-boarding. The 'clueless' ones at the airlines looked at me twice, even though I wore long-leg braces. (maybe I was too cute to be disabled in their eyes ... lol ) After nearly being trampled by a herd of cows in the jetway for the 10th time, I decided 'to h--- with this' and started pre-boarding in a d--- wheelchair. Until humans evolve to be more thoughtful creatures, use your disability to whatever extent you need, in order to get what best accommodates you. That's a bit cynical, but that's reality. I, too, live on a corner lot, and put in a circular drive. However, your first problem is: you live in Texas. Your second problem is: you live in Texas. lol (fyi, I live in Tuxus, too.) Sit down with the inspector, and clearly explain your reasons, i.e., d-i-s-a-b-i-l-i-t-y. USE YOUR BRACES, WHEELCHAIR, WALKER, ETC. This is no time to be passive, and coy. If you get any static, go immediately to their supervisor. Don't hesitate to go to your locally elected councilman, to plead your case. If you get no resolution, you might contact the state's Protection & Advocacy organization, which may take your case pro-bono, and file a complaint/suit against the city. Then again, most P & A's are now social-service-feel-good groups, rather than legal advocates, though I think the one in Texas is still a bit litigious. You have spent an enormous amount of money on your home, to have anal-retentive government employees share their control-freak misery with you. There were always those kind of kids on the playground, and now they're all grown up. lol ;-) Good luck.
