Guest guest
Children to spread spring cheer http://www.dailyamerican.com/articles/2007/03/30/news/friday/news04.t xt The 10th Annual CMT Daffodils for Seniors will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Laurel View Village, 2000 Cambridge Drive, sville. Each spring, local children pick, arrange and hand out thousands of daffodils, much to the delight of the Laurel View Village residents. The daffodil giveaway is in the name of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and in honor of J.D. Griffith's daughter, Marah, who died at age 16 from CMT on Christmas Day 2001. Marah was instrumental in the conception of children giving daffodils to seniors. She loved organizing the event and working with the children, and she particularly enjoyed the pleasure it gave to the nursing home residents. Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is the most common inherited neurological disorder, affecting at least 150,000 individuals in the U.S. Although nearly as common as multiple sclerosis, CMT is virtually unknown to the public and is often misdiagnosed by the medical community. The P. Murtha Neuroscience & Pain Institute, a member of the Conemaugh Health System, has opened a CMT Clinic in stown. The local CMT Support Group is one of the largest in the country with more than 90 members. For more information on the daffodil giveaway and information on Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, visit the Web site: http://www.cmtfoundation.org/. The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Foundation has its headquarters in stown. Donations may be made on the Web site or through the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.
