Though often difficult to cast and fit, these children can benefit from early intervention and bracing support. The orthoses are composed of nesting plastic shells: the inner one offering comfortable wraparound control of the foot position, the outer shell providing support and stabilization for the heel. Fitting neatly into regular shoes, the nested shells hold the patient's foot in a functional position to improve stability during both standing and walking. JumpStart-Mid is a supramalleolar brace with an open trimline at the ankle of the inner shell to accommodate free dorsiflexion and plantar flexion. JumpStart-High combines a proximal posterior component with its full wraparound inner shell for additional mediolateral stability and to block mild excess plantar flexion. Both models are available in pink and blue in children's sizes from 4 to 7.5 (birth to three years). The off-the-shelf devices supply an affordable alternative to custom braces.
