Guest guest
, Oh this one is priceless. I thought this had all been straightened out. Sure, talk to the " Enrollment Specialist " , but also talk to the Dept. Head, and the Dean of the Graduate School if needed. Meanwhile, attend every class, take the notes, do the work, and document it all. This reeks of discrimination. http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/index.html The mission of the Office for Civil Rights is to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence throughout the nation through vigorous enforcement of civil rights. http://www.ed.gov/policy/rights/guid/ocr/disability.html Browse over these sites. If your college gets Federal $, they do need to provide " accomodation " . You are most likely so good at what you do the school sees you as a threat. Meanwhile, 2 more suggestions: Call up your local newspaper and let them know what a great story you have for them, then do the same with the campus paper. Bad press goes along way. ~ Gretchen

Guest guest
Hi Gretchen, Mike, and CMTers, Thank you for the feedback and support. Here is where things stand - the US Dept of Ed. OCR worked with the EEOC (also federal level) to divide the case up. They can not overlap in charges. Although this could be a case for dept of ed, the EEOC is taking it completely. Normally the dept of ed ocr would be the absolute best resource, but my grant is tied to a two year work commitment so my situation ,is a bit unconventional. This could take years, but I am told from someone in a disability advocacy group that it looks like the EEOC is working quickly on this. I met with the enrollment specialist yesterday. Although she can not override the social work depts decision to drop me from the program, she is going to work with the university VP to so that he/she can force me back in. She said that she wants me to graduate on time and does not agree with having to pay back the grant money. I will not resign from the grant it isn't just the prospect of paying back the 25K, it is the ethics of the situation. I got a letter from the campus stating that I should disregard the 1099 form that they mailed me and that I should not claim last years stipend/grant money. I received a replacement 1099 from them last week stating that they did not pay me. Needless to say my husband and I reported the money to the IRS. I received it, cashed it, and paid tuition etc. with it. Well wishes & lots of thanks, Chris
