A week ago, I delivered a healthy baby girl, Hope Caroline. Since

there is not a ton of info on pregnancy & CMT, I wanted to just

share my experience with both.

My pregnancy went really well. I was off all meds from 7 weeks on. I

had neuropathic pain, but treated it with Tylenol. Didn't do a ton

of good, but better than nothing.

The end of the pregnancy was hard. The end of every pregnancy is

hard whether you have CMT or not, but having balance/muscle atrophy

already and then adding a big belly to the mix, wasn't all that fun:)

I didn't gain alot of weight which I believe was my saving grace.

Delivery went really well. Had a hard time getting my epidural to

numb me completely for the C-section. I am normally a 100-105 lbs,

so they were very surprised to find how much drugs were needed to

get me to the point that I was ready for surgery. The doctor feels

like CMT could have something to do with it, but I have always had a

high tolerance for drugs.

I am a week out from having her, and I am already noticing

significant changes in my physical appearance that were not there

prior to this pregnancy. My lower legs are significantly thinner

(stork-like) and I find myself grabbing the walls for balance.

My feet have suffered the most. About 6 months into the pregnancy,

my feet went completely numb and I have developed hammertoes. My

neuro was hopeful that after the pregnancy, my numbness would

decrease. This hasn't happened yet, but I am still hopeful!

All in all, the complications/exacerbations to CMT from the

pregnancy are low in comparison to the great joy of having a new

member of the family.

Hope this is helpful to some of you who might be pregnant or

considering having a family.
