From Yahoo:WARNING ABOUT GROUPLY.COMThis is a new site which advertises they can make accessing yourgroups faster and easier. Most of us are too seasoned to fall forsomething like this, but I am posting this as a warning. This is what happens when you join:'First, when a member joins, itautomatically changes their primary email address for the groups, giving them a @grouply.com extension. This is being done unaware tothose who are joining.Secondly, members who join the grouply website are having to givetheir member ID and password.

This opens up a security issue forthose members.Thirdly, once a member joins grouply, it opens access to the filesand posts of each group to the grouply website. Grouply staff canthen access these files. If they get hacked, then it opens the doorsto the groups getting hacked as well. It has also been reported thatit's generating a lot of spam already.'In other words, information from a group can be made accessible toeveryone, and massive amounts of spam with your email address can begenerated. The following information tells you the steps which need to betaken if someone has joined Grouply.comIDENTIFY THEFT AT GROUPLY.COMThere is a message going out to different Yahoo Groups advertisingand suggesting that you join a new group called GROUPLY. This groupclaims to help manage

all your Yahoo groups and you will get asummary, at the end of the day, telling you what is going on in allyour groups.IF YOU JOIN THIS GROUP, they use your Yahoo ID and password topost'mass mailings' (can be junk, can be porno) and send them toanyone, and since it's YOUR ID they are using, others will think itis coming from you. For instance, you could get an email CLAIMINGthat it came from 'emagic2' Yahoo group and it really is not fromthis group. I could get an email, with this mass mailing, claiming itcame from me, and it wouldn't have been from me.Again, IF YOU HAVE JOINED THIS GROUP called 'GROUPLY' IMMEDIATELYleave Grouply. Then go into your account at:http://groups. yahoo.com/ mygroups and change your password. Somegroups have posted that this will help. Unsubbing from that groupwon't make a difference (but I think you will want to) so change yourYahoo Password. By joining this group you have also exposed all yourgroups, group members and group leaders tohacking of their emails and group information. Because of thisproblem, all members with a email grouply.com are being removed fromthe affected groups. This is the only way to protect all the members. This is how Identity theft gets going. They now have your real email, your yahoo emails, any emails listed in your yahoo group and can mailas you in and out of the yahoo

groups.I hope you understand what is happening and will take precautions toprotect your Yahoo ID.Thanks; The Yahoo Team

FROM A MEMBER FROM ANOTHER AUSTIM YAHOO GROUP……..

"What many people seem to be missing about this whole Grouply thing is that the archives of Yahoo groups can be made available to the public through the individuals members sharing them within Grouply. Does not matter at all if a group is set so that only members can access archives, if a group member makes it available on Grouply, it's available to anyone and everyone through that website."(Quoted from http://answers. yahoo.com/ question/ index? qid=20080209214049A Atha6M)"Grouply is tapping Yahoo lists and reposting the messages to Grouply members. As soon as ONE list member joins this service, all of our messages will then be archived by Grouply. Grouply changes your email address to (yourname)@grouply. com. for the purpose of your Yahoo

list mail only. They will also go into your Yahoo account and change all of your preferences regarding how you view your mail, whether you get individual posts or digests, and whether you can be directly added to any of a million other Yahoo groups."(Full quote: http://message. snopes.com/ showthread. php?p=508572)Thought you should know
