Guest guest
The thing to consider is the size of the agency you work for. I have a friend who was fired for having chronic ahsma and sad enough she was a social worker who had been there 7 years without ever having a bad review. The agency made sure they hired no more then 25 employees and made sure each affiliated office was just far enough away so that they can continue to be exempt from the EEO/ADA. She called the federal agency and they told her they could fire you for any reason whether your of a different nationality, disabiled, age whatever. I was very angry hearing that so I quit that agency and worked for the state where I was protected. Also there are little things to consider. They can demote you if you can not perform the job but there needs to be " reasonable efforts " to accomodate. I deal with this all the time being an administator for the state in a legal department. On one of my seminars, it showed that disabled employees usually are more productive employees but unfortunately there is still a stigma associated with disabled workers being slow unproductive workers. Often times they never get the job because of it. I do think people need to be reasonable. I would not go for a job I couldn't physically do and complain later about and expect my employer to keep me. I am by far the most productive one at my job and yes I push myself more then the average person but its what happens to people like us who are disabled.
