Guest guest
300,000 Machines For Sleep Apnea Recalled http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=69355 ResMed, the second largest manufacturer of CPAP machines in the U.S., has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 300,000 specific CPAP machines known as the S8 series. The problem with the S8 is the potential for the devices to short circuit in the power supply connector due to a problem with a component ResMed says it purchased from another vendor. CPAP machines are used primarily by people who have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, a disorder where the tissue and muscles in the throat and airway collapse during sleep. One danger with this recall is that during sleep, it is easier for a person to be overcome by smoke and smoke inhalation. A further danger is with those individuals who use supplemental oxygen during with the CPAP machines. ResMed is advising individuals using an S8 with supplemental oxygen to contact their home health care provider immediately, and to **not** use the S8 or to **not** use the oxygen under the machine is replaced. Using a faulty S8 with supplemental oxygen could possibly lead to an explosion. ResMed is working to replace all 300,000 S8 CPAP machines, according to a press release, but that will take time. All the machines involved in this recall were the ones " made in early production " of the model, according to ResMed.
