Guest guest
, Scoliosis is seen in some persons with CMT. Some types of CMT have hearing loss associated with it. Shingles is not a symptom of CMT, but could infact be causing the PN now, or making it worse. The life insurance suggestion from the doc was a way for him to tell your husband his balance and proprioception problems indicate he should not be getting up on ladders. As for your husband continuing to work full time - that needs to be discussed more fully with the doctor. Many people with PN and CMT work all their lives. There are plenty of genetic tests for PN's also CMT, yes. Ask the doc about Hereditary Ataxia's and other types of neuropathy; like immune related, tumor related,toxic/drug/other substance related; hypothyroid, compressive related, also about Frederick's Ataxia, CIDP too. You didn't mention footdrop in your post, but I would ask about this. Sounds like the docs are trying to be thorough with tests first, before giving a diagnosis. This is a good thing. If the docs have not asked about family history of PN or other illnesses, find out everything you can before the next appointment. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
I had my daughter into the Scoliosis specialist a week ago. He checks all of my children for Scoli even my kids without CMT. He said 2 % of the population has Scoli and only 1% needs surgery for it. The odds will remain the same for a child with CMT. What degree hearing loss does your husband have? The odds seem pretty good that he has hearing loss from work. As far as the life insurance being paid up. I don't believe that was a joke. Guest guest
Re: your survey questions - I've had no peripheral neuropathy although I was on Zerit for five years and developed fairly severe lipoatrophy after being switched to a 40mg dose (was on 30mg for the first year due to low weight). I had full blown AIDS as well. I have taken B supplements for a long time - particularly B12. Also, I don't seem to have developed any pre-diabetic problems. Have you been screened for B12 and folate deficiency? http://www.hopkins-hivguide.org/diagnosis/organ_system/neurologic/neuropathy__peripheral.html?contentInstanceId=9290 Moody friends. Drama queens.
