Guest guest
Hi there, I sometimes use these carts at shopping malls. I don't want to but if I don't then my shopping time is cut in half. However, I have never met anyone that insulted me. If anybody said anything rude to me I would just smile and say you ignorant & *(#$ & _@ & *(%+()#%*()* & #%()@ & * and drive away. Don't get me wrong but I have a physical disability and these people have a ignorance disability. I am not usually an angry person but try and embarrass me and I can be nasty...LOL. Life is too short to worry about what other people are thinking. Just be the better person and smile and say have a nice day and move on. If you feel the need then call them a & *_#)((* & & & *#@__()#%>...I guess it is all according to your mood. I find that If I am not in too much pain then I am ok but if I am in lots of pain then I should wear a notice on my forhead because that is when I could explode....LOL have a good day,,,, Corinne susan smith wrote: > > Janet > I am with you, I am also very overweight, but people have never said > anything to me about using a cart. Guest guest
When I asked the question about to help or not I was thinking of the lady I mentioned, do I ask to help her or not. Thankfilly I need little help now. But I've been there and like to help when I can but it is hard to know. Guest guest
I gratefully accept help whenever it is offered. I need to conserve my energy, the more help I get, the more I can do. On the other side, my kids learned early on to offer help. They were around their grandma, who needed a lot of help, and felt it was an honor to be her helper. I can assure you that if one of them offered to help you, they would mean it as a compliment to you that you allowed them to give you assistance. Like a young man we met at the bank one day - " my grandma would whap me on the side of the head if I didn't offer to help you " . Guest guest
Yes, scooters with dry cell battery(s) are allowed on airplanes. I ride mine down the jetway to the door of the plane and then wait to be sure the baggage handlers know how to lower the tiller and pick it up properly (e.g. by the grab handle not the seat) for safe carriage to the luggage compartment. Another benefit to riding it to the jetway is that there is little chance it will be put on the wrong plane. So far so good. Just to be sure, the scooter should also be tagged with your flight number. Happy flying. > > Hi Again All, > > I recently posted here and did not get any response. So, I am posting > again. I drive mine to the door of the aircraft, walk into my bulkhead seat , and turn my scooter over to the luggage handler. If you used a manual fold up standard wheelchair, one would be allowed in the cabin. Who knows what the new security rules have done to wheelchair travelers!!! Guest guest
I have been told I can have it put in the belly of the plane if I have dry battery cells, which I do. I have had damage, but they paid to get it fixed-luckily it happened on the way home from our vacation.
Guest guest
Hi everyone, My mom is at the point where she can get around without assistance in the house, but would like some type of scooter for getting around out in the yard, and the road. They live out in the country. They don't have any money, so I wondered if anyone has found a cheap solution that would work for someone like her. She is 73 years old, and her legs are affected the most. Does Medicare usually pay for some of it? Thanks for your help, Lori
Guest guest
I was the same way at first too, it was a bit embarrassing (using my wheelchair, scooter, or the store scooters), but I got over that as well. It's all a matter of what makes life easier for me, and who the heck cares what anyone else thinks? They don't know me, I don't know them, and they sure as heck aren't living my life (or running my errands) for me. ) Scooters, wheelchairs, power chairs; they are all tools for us to use to help us live better lives. They help us conserve our energy, suffer less pain, and improve the quality of our lives! Take advantage of them! Carol In a message dated 4/22/2007 12:23:37 P.M. With a cart I can: * Shop more often- it is not the only thing I feel able to do in a day ( before cart- to walk the store required all my energy for the day) * Accompany my husband and or son as he goes around the store * Have a bit of energy left to help put up the groceries or enjoy my family So, I now own my own scooter. It makes lots more family time possible. My niece and nephew love it- they ride on it w/ me and make a game of it. Once I got over the embarrassment and fear- I learned it is all in how I choose to view it- so I choose to view it as a part of my life that lets me live life instead of sitting on the sidelines all the time. So, go ahead and try it when the store is empty- go at night and try it out- view it as an adventure.... Scooters can change your life. You can adjust the speed and go slower if you want, and the minute you take your hand off the control, they stop. It's a whole new world! Judy from Central Ill. > > Cassy,.....Were not alone. I made her feel good but I went home and had a good cry. I now have my won scooter and I have not has one person say any thing to me. I took it to My Dr. appt. the other day and it was great! I was not tired when I got back home. My RA dr was trying to tell me he did not wont me to never get one I would only ride and never walk again well I have been walking still as much as I can but when you have to walk a lot and your legs give up what are you to do. Guest guest
I have seen more and more folks riding those little scooters down the sidewalks. One time one was in front of me in the drive thru at Mc s I say whatever helps is what you should do and if you have to walk a long distance like a mall or doctors building what the heck. My poor FIL though has a huge driveway and he normally would take his scooter out to get the mail but that day he got to the bottom of the drive and the darn thing stopped on him. He didn't bring a phone with him or anything and he lives out in the middle of no where so he had to push his scooter up the drive and into the house. It took him two hours but he did it. Guest guest
Welcome Suzanne, On another list someone (LP) posted regarding a new scooter she had purchased and another member mentioned that they've had one for a while and were very satisfied. See: http://www.shoprider.com/ You'll see that they have a multiple scooters in a variety of sizes. > > Hello: > > I'm a newbie...I have a " significant other " who is a little person and right now he's having troubles with his scooter: He has a regular scooter which has been modified (stuffing taken out of the seat) to enable him to transfer...with the assistance of a walker...a few steps on to the toilet. The trouble is that - with the seat lowered, the seat hits a lever underneath that is for the break lock I think and -with him swinging the seat back and forth...the lever is now broken and the scooter won't budge. The " fix it " guys say it'll be $1,500 CD to repair it and he's had the thing for about five or six years now with constant and rough use. I think he should get a new one buy he says he wouldn't get assistance from the government because his income is supposedly too high...I think he would though. We live in Ontario Canada by the way. >
