Guest guest
I am a Family Practitioner with CMT. My specialty is Bio-Identical hormones. If you have osteoporosis, are under 60 and have a low risk for stroke or breast cancer, I think hormones are better/safer than Bisphosphonates(eg, Fosamax) for your bones. I really don¹t think they are going to make your CMT worse. And if they do, just stop them. Bio-identical just means that the hormone is identical to the hormones that your body makes (made), as opposed to other estrogens, for instance, ³Premarin,² which comes from horse urine. If you think you would like to try hormone replacement for menopausal symptoms (joint aches and muscle pains, included), tell your doctor you want real Estradiol, Progesterone and Testosterone therapy, NOT esterified estrogens, progestin or synthetic testosterone. In the US, bio-identical testosterone is not available as a routine prescription. It must be obtained from a compounding pharmacy. You might want to see if there are any practitioners belonging to the International Hormone Society in your area. If you have questions, email me directly since I don¹t always manage to read every group post. Of note, my CMT was the worst it has ever been when I was nursing both my children. In retrospect, I am sure it is because my hormones were so low at that time. Anecdotal, but true. Be well. Sudarsky, MD (Santa ,California).
