Guest guest
Hi Elaine! Lainie who posts here taught me this! (Hi Lainie!) When I first got diagosed with CMT, I called a support group and asked if I could talk with someone who wore AFOs. They gave me Lainie's number. She's a life-saver. One of my best friends now. Anyway -- I put a thin kneesock on first. Then velcro on my brace. Lift my brace onto my other knee and slide on the other sock. It helps if the 2nd sock is stretchy. If the 2nd sock is too tight and your hands don't work too well, it's hard to slide it on. This way your brace stays on easily while you put on your jeans/slacks. Another tip I learned from Lainie: In the summer, I put a knee-hi stocking (or those heavy-duty surgical(?) socks) over the brace -- and wear no sox. Very comfortable and cool that way. You may have to buy larger size-knee hi's. My velcro was attached to my brace. So I cut it off and bought new velcro to go totally around the brace -- over the knee hi. The knee-hi's don't last too long. But for me, the comfort is worth it. If you have any questions, please ask! JoAnn N. Guest guest
Where's a good place to get knee highs that don't bind at the top but stay up? Elinor
Guest guest
Elinor You could stick a strip of the velcro hooky side to the top of your AFO then any thin sock would work. Ed
Guest guest
Hi, " thigh - hi's " socks work great for me and maybe for other gals with AFOS they may be helpful. I put them on first, then the AFOs and shoes, and then roll the socks down over the top of the AFOS all the way back to my ankles, for a smooth look under pants.... I have Toe- Offs so they even cover the bar at my ankle and go down to where the shoe finishes. But, they also worked great with the white custom AFOS I had before. They also prevent the velcro from catching on pants. The store on line is called hosiery plus for thigh his. http://www.hosieryplus.com/category_79_OPAQUE_THIGH_HIS__OVER_THE_KNEE.html Good Luck Sue PS I also love Propet brand of shoes/boots -- with extra wide sizes a lot of AFOs will fit and they are really well made. Crocs are great, too.

Guest guest
I do the same thing in the winter, in the summer I put a nude pantyhose underneath and just wear little athletic socks over the pantyhose. Jackie
