Guest guest
Hi,I had a conversation this am with my teens high school vice principle. My son is being suspended agin..ughhh. Anyway I asked the vp what he knew about autism, pdd spectrum and students social challenges ect. He says he knows " nothing really " in regards to autism spectrum. Nothing about student stress, social challenges, meltdowns or difficulties faced by kids pertaining to autism or stimming behaviors. I can't believe this! Anyway my son is having social difficulties at school. Now he is suspended agin, for 1 week. He is having all kinds of problems this year. I asked if my son was CAUGHT spitting. He was not. My son does spit. He says he did not spit on someones coat. He spits in garbage cans, sinks and outdoors. He's always spit. He was seen in the vicinity of the persons coat. The kids claimed my son had spit on it. The vp says he will take their{students} word. I told him my son was not there on the accusation day. He said it did not matter what day it was. He also told me about state laws and fines that are filed against my son too. Spitting is against the law. A few days ago my son was also with another teen who had tobacco. My son is getting fined{state law} and suspended for this write up. It took place out of town at a hs football game my son attended. Guilt by association. My son is getting a state fine for this also. The vp told me if my son is having academic problems because of all the attendance issues from suspensions that he could have an iep. He said thats all the school has to offer. My son was not eligible for the iep because of high test scores. They gave him the wasl test. I am stressed into overtime dealing with the schools. Now state fines. I have not met a single school professional in our small town schools who will make provision or allowance for behaviors that go hand in hand with the autism spectrum or know anything about the autism spectrum. I mentioned to the vp that he may want to talk to someone who knows about autism or read something online. He did not say he would. I think I made him mad with my advice. It was not my intent. I may end up homeschooling/ ged with all of my children agin. Now I have to pay state fines. Needless to say,my children are not excused under the law. Its so dang hard parenting through all theese issues. I have had so many years of this! too many. Tishanne

Guest guest
(((((Tishanne))))) I feel so bad for you. I wish we lived closer, I would " love " to have a " chat " with this vp. Honestly, you need to talk to the closest disability center about a lawyer, or find one that would love to take this on pro-bono. It's totally wrong. Sorry no other thoughts on this. > > Hi,I had a conversation this am with my teens high school vice > principle. My son is being suspended agin..ughhh. Guest guest
I consistently love your thoughts on stuff like this...you are a marvelous defender even if only through email...., I wish you lived close to all of us You are so willing to stroll in and speak...I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need some of what you have!!!! J --------------------------------------------------------------------------------I feel so bad for you. I wish we lived closer, I would "love" to have. A "chat" with this VP.
Guest guest
Thank you for the kind words. I took criminal justice courses over 10 years ago. Before I took the classes I thought that things worked out the right way. Boy was I naive. I've learned that the old saying that mom always quoted is right. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. I have also learned that if I can't get an answer on the phone from someone, that I " magically " appear in their waiting area. It is much easier to get rid of someone on the phone, not as easy when they are sitting in the waiting area. So far, I have usually gotten what I want, or at least a good start to getting it. I only hope that my words, though not posted that often can help make it easier for others. > > I consistently love your thoughts on stuff like this...you are a marvelous defender even if only through email...., I wish you lived close to all of us  You are so willing to stroll in and speak...I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need some of what you have!!!! >  > J >  > > -------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ > I feel so bad for you. Guest guest
,the squeaky wheel is my dads quote too, lol. Boy were they ever right! I worked as an advocate in the past for human rights, special needs and some other grass root foundations. Moving things through the legal system is like hitting the brick wall, over and over. It amounts to a small fish in a giant fish bowl taking up lots of space. Most would rather dump the bowl, flush the fish and redecorate. If you choose to enjoy the fish and care for its needs and feed it,that would be ethics, at its best. To bad ethics are on the other side of the brick wall, lol. You are one of the few who scale it,lol. Guest guest
Thank you again for the kind words. I sometimes feel like I am beating my head against that brick wall, but I know the door is there somewhere, so I keep on looking. I also refuse to take no for an answer. I now know what needs to be done and come he!! or high water it will get done. My current battle is s hand writing. It is not getting any better, if he's anything like me, it'll be years before it does. My concern is he's in 4th grade and there are major tests coming up. I want him to be tested on his knowledge not his handwriting. He is allowed extra time and a scribe, but I would prefer him being able to type his answers if possible, so we are going throuhj the bs about testing for it. I always nake sure I have a mental end date, where if what I want isn't done, the gloves come off. I'm giving them until the end of November, then I call for an emergency CSE (committee on special education) meeting, sign the 5 day waiver, and get it expedited. I'll make sure and keep all informed. > > > > > > I consistently love your thoughts on stuff like this...you are a > > marvelous defender even if only through email...., I wish you > > lived close to all of us  You are so willing to stroll in and > > speak...I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need some of what you > have!!!! > > >  > > > J > > >  > > > > > > ---------------------------------------------------------------- -- > -- > > ------------ > > > I feel so bad for you.
