Guest guest
There is currently an initiative regarding the Employability Project in the states. I don't think that every state is participating, but here in Arkansas we have a task force to develop the mission statement, design the goals that are important to individuals and to look at funding resources. The task force is comprised of about 15 people who work for various disability organizations. While it is still a pilot program, it is very exciting to be involved in something that will allow more people with disabilities become employable, gain more independence and increase awareness of people with disabilities in society. Although this program is being developed to help all PWD's be able to work with assistive technology, there is a strong focus on securing employment and training for people with developmental disabilities. And of course when more people are working it boosts our economy and help PWD's to live more independently. Then issues like getting out of nursing homes and providing more universal designed buildings (including houses) There is still so much to be done, but we are getting there! in AR
