Guest guest
How about returning to your Orthotist and discussing what you'd like to be more comfortable, or how your former AFOs could be used. Or how about Carbon Graphite AFOs? Good article at http://www.biomech.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=198900243 ~ Gretchen

Guest guest
Geri, I don't understand are you just not walking or are you wearing like hiking sandals with your AFOs instead of shoes? Ed
Guest guest
I went through this with my orthotist a few months ago. Yes they use different plastics to make AFOs.
Guest guest
My orthotist uses kevlar and graphite for that reason. Mine are stronger and lighter. The type of plastic can make all of the difference in the world with your AFOs. He is also able to cut them out in the rear so they are more like metal braces and also cooler and less sticky. His name is Wade Bader or Bader Orthotics in Tampa, He has made me the best AFOs I have had. Plus he will make them any color or pattern. Guest guest
Some of the lightest are made from carbon fiber, the same material used in Formula One cars and jet airplanes. Custom carbon fiber is expensive, but if you can be fitted with an off-the-shelf AFO like those offered by Ossur they are quite reasonable. --Larry
