Guest guest
I apologize if this is an inappropriate question, but I was curious as to how treatment and education is handled in countries other than the US. In the US, it can be a horrifying process to get services (Occupational, speech therapy, behavioral therapy) and education services are atrocious in many locations. We are homeschooling because the public school is completely inappropriate and we cannot afford private school-or rather the schools we can afford (and we are so fortunate to have options) have extremely long waiting lists. In my area, " alternative " therapies-such as hippotherapy, music therapy, etc.- are mainly paid for by the families (with no or little tax reductions), or through non-profit organizations. I was just curious about the experiences of families from other countries.
Guest guest
, I WISH we had all these therapies and options! We live in Syria, and autism workers here hardly even 'heard' of ABA! you have to travel to Lebanon to see and ABA specialist. What's available in our country, as far as I know, is Autism centers applying behaviour intervention Speech therapy The normral physical therapy for those who have serious physical problems.. nothing specificly disigned for autistic people. Interventions based on sensory approaches (That's new here and is handled by an Egyptian specialist), we're doing it a couple of weeks later. All the fancy therapies (Dolphins, horses, music, RDI, hyperberic oxygen thing.. etc.. etc..) are not avilable, unless you were really rich and brought someone from abroad specially to work with your child. There isn't a place here where you can find a complete team specialised in diagnosing autism, it's supposed to contain a pediatrician, a physicial therapist, a neural physician, a speech therapist, a psychologist.. All we got was autism specialists, they said it's classic autism. I think there are no DAN! doctors in the nearby countries. If you want to do bio-med work, you're on your own, some of these stuff are not even heard of here. Hmm what else? .. I think that's enough to give you an idea. We depend on doing thourough research on the internet, try to order book from outside the country, depend a LOT on other parents in groups like this one, see other parents in the country who are ahead of us on the road of treatment.. Cheers!
