Valkion - Ease of use

Hi All;

I have some practical questions for those of you who have a Valkion unit.

As most of our kids have sensory issues (mine are particularly sound and tactile sensitive):

- Have you had difficulty attaching the nasal cannula/inhalation mask, and if so how did you overcome it?

- What does a treatment "feel" like -- i.e is there pressure in the nasal passage that might cause a sensory sensitive child to become upset (one of my kids is non-verbal and wouldn't understand an explanation)

- How loud is the unit when it is operating?

Thanks so much!

- Have you had difficulty attaching the nasal cannula/inhalation

mask, and if so how did you overcome it? Its not difficult at all,

once they see other's do it they understand. If still its a problem

there is no need to place inside nose, you can place tubing next to

face while the child is sleeping just increase time - you can simple

hold next to nose as they sleep (Dr. K recommended this for children

who have these issues)

- What does a treatment " feel " like -- I.e is there pressure in the

nasal passage that might cause a sensory sensitive child to become

upset (one of my kids is non-verbal and wouldn't understand an

explanation) You really cannot feel the air coming out its very low

pressure flow. Again just have your child watch other siblings or

yourself a few times then they may simple start doing it on their

own. Otherwise just do steps above

- How loud is the unit when it is operating? The machine is pretty

quite, very low sound and once the time is over it cut off by iteself.

Hope this helps - Lorina

Hi Lorina;

Thanks for the response to my post.

I know my eldest would have a VERY hard time with anything up or near her nose. Did DK say it was less effective holding the mask near the face -- or that you should increase the time of treatment if the nasal piece isn't in the nose?

Kim,

I'm trying to wrack my brain on the details of this one. I do remember

him mentioning it was so easy you could even set it by the bed next to

them while they sleep and they'll get some. I don't remember him

mentioning about upping the time for this application. What I'd do is

try the time. If you see that they can tolerate more after a couple of

uses, try upping it...the only thing you may see if you increase to

much at once is a little more detox. Going up in slow increments,

whichever way it's administered is the important part. It's amazing

how easy this machine is.
