Guest guest
Amy, I think your fear is realistic, and the heavier she gets the greater the danger of throwing you off balance. I have seen hip and/or sling carriers where the baby is on the hip. Do you think that would make you more or less unbalanced? The injuries to the baby might be less from a fall. If you can twist when you fall, you might be able to get a hip-slung baby on top. Maybe you could use a stroller more and pick her up less, only when you are sitting and can lift her out of the stroller. I don't have CMT but I watch my husband trip, and I worry about your baby. Of course you want to be able to pick her up as often as possible, and babies want to be picked up, but a baby on your front could get a head or other injury. Guest guest
Hi Amy, If I may put my two cents in? I would be concerned carrying a baby in the front. If you would fall and not be able to stop yourself with your arms you may come straight down on the baby. I would consider the one that goes on your back, that is if you had someone to help you with this. Hope it all works out for you! Guest guest
Hi Amy, I could never use on of those front carriers. I need to look at the ground when I am walking. I used a stroller a lot in and out of the house and a car seat. , mother of
Guest guest
Amy, I didn't have luck with the Baby Bjorn, either, because it really hurt my back after a short time, threw my balance off, and made it hard to watch the ground (see my feet). Like someone suggested, I used an umbrella stroller as soon as my daughter could sit up in places like my school, etc. where there was a lot of carrying. I still have a stroller for her at four because when she tires she's too heavy for me to carry any distance. There are also great little strollers where the car seats fit inside them, those could be used around the house. There are a lot of great slings that can allow for baby wrapping on the hip where the baby won't throw you off balance so much. But I was also really aware and careful and didn't carry her in the middle of the night when my balance is most challenging. She's also been walking a lot since she learned to get around- taught her great independence Best wishes! Lenka
Guest guest
Hi Amy, I am assuming that you don't wear AFOs since you mentioned your toe dragging? When my children were babies when I went anywhere I just carried them in the pumpkin car seat as I was afraid of tripping & falling even with my AFOs on. I also use a stroller alot. I did have one of those slings for carrying a baby, but rarely used it because of my fear of falling. When going out of the house, the pumpkin seat is what I felt most safe with. It is very burdensome because of the weight, but I felt if I fell, the baby would be cushioned. Most of the time around the house I would push the bassinett (mine had wheels)wherever I was going. It's so hard when you see other parents carrying there babies in their arms. I did fall one time with my baby boy. Thankfully he wasn't hurt, but it scared me to death. It's a parents' worse nightmare to fall with their baby. You will find what works best. Enjoy you baby, they grow so fast. My " baby " is 2 yr.s old now. Another worry awaits you... It won't be long before you are chasing that baby and wandering how you're going to catch them. Good luck and God bless, Holly
Guest guest
Another good thing about a stroller is the baby gets used to being it in. As toddlers they didn't mind being in a stroller strapped in. It took the worry out if them running away from me. I was never one of those moms that let the toddlers run free in public.
