Guest guest
Hi Ed: Congrats on the new job! What type of writing do you do? It's great that you're getting around so well after your fusion. But, being a veteran of the fusion war, I feel I need to warn you to please be careful! I fell after one of my fusions, due to a crack in my brace on the other leg which allowed my foot to drop. I unfortunately cracked the nail that was in the tiblia as a stabilizing device and ended up having to have it removed. I know, they tell you that the titanium is so strong that it won't break, but I'm here to tell you that it will! Since then, I've had two more fusions on the same ankle. Since there is less to work with each time due to places where nails and rods have been removed and it actually leaves " holes " in the bone, there is less likelihood of the fusion being successful. I had my most recent fusion in June and they are only giving me a 50% shot at success. If it doesn't work this time, we may be considering a Symes amputation. I'm trying to stay positive and not even consider that, but.... anyway, I'm really glad you are doing well with your fusion, but I'd hate to hear that you had an accident and ended up in my boat. So, enjoy your new found mobility, but please be very very careful. in AR
Guest guest
Hi , I returned to school to train as a tech writer. I write those annoying instructions that come with most consumer items. Sorry to hear about your ankle failing, I have a cousin in a similar situation. She fell while walking her dog and undid her fusion. The ankle fusion failing is something that drives me to the brink of paranoia. I've taken to wearing only high cut shoes to support the ankle, they also prevent my ankle from swelling. It's kind of easy for a guy to get away with wandering around in tactical boots all the time though. Probably not great formal feminine footwear. I hope your latest operation is a success. This is such a damn frustrating condition to live with, in the end all we can do is live with the hand each of us has been dealt, and get by as best we can. It still sucks though. Please let me know how you progress. Ed
