My bike ride for charity

Hi everyone,

Just a little update. On Sunday my husband and I and our friend did a big bike

ride for charity.

Although I had calculated the ride to be 45 km, according to my husband and

friend who have counters on their cycles, it was actually 58 km. So I nearly

rode 60 km on Sunday!

I am travelling again for work but plan to update my website with the photos of

us (at the start of the ride). It wound up being nice and sunny in the morning,

progressively cloudy and humid, so when we finished and collected the medal, we

headed straight back home (suffering sugar lows - another 10 km before it was

over) to avoid the rain. We sat down to a pasta lunch and watched the downpours

at 3 pm from the comfort of the restaurant. A nice long bath in salts, and a

good meal of steak and roast sweet potato, and this morning I felt ok (although

still tired).

The interesting thing to me was that although I was on a cycle, my FEET felt

tired at night. And I knew to expect that my peroneal (side of calf) muscles

would feel tired as when you cycle you use your ankle a lot. Of course once I

broke my toe clips that was that for getting a good peroneal workout.

I must admit as well that my hips are super tight. I found dismounting the bike

really tough. So my friend told me to lay it down on the ground and step away

from it rather than lifting my leg - she said lots of triathletes do the same

thing as they get tight and cramped. A great tip. Works also for getting on

the saddle too!

It was neat to see lots of cyclists out in central London for charity. The

event was run by the Leukaemia Research Trust. It was also an experience going

on large divided highways on a cycle - but thankfully my friend was super safe

and guided us really well.

Anyway, thought I would share the great news. I think we raised

collectively about $400 for the charity.

Hi Donna,

Great post and update on your ride - it made me feel like I was there

too! I'll look forward to the pics on your site.

Congratulations on achieving this goal!

Hi Gretchen and everyone,

Well it is now less than a week to the triathlon. I am really excited and

nervous.

As you might remember I dislocated my elbow and since the first injury in early

June, I have re-done this a few times. The twist and pull / push motion is not

good for a weak elbow! I went to the doctor on Friday and got the ok to do the

triathlon, although I have to be super careful. No more time goal - just

participation...

I can't wait to share the stories. Wish me luck and if you want to read more

Hi Donna,

I've been thinking about you (and everyone else in the UK) and how

the rain is hampering things or not. Very glad to here the

Triathlon is almost here, and your participation is still a " go " .

Just wondering if you can wear some kind of low-key elbow support

for it. I admire you so much, goals are so important - of any kind,

and training takes so much discipline for something like this. All

so good for one's " spirit " .

God's speed in the Triathlon and in the healing of the elbow too :)
