I was sitting with a very sick friend in October and had to call 911. The fire

department asked me what medicine she was on and I panicked until I remembered

that her husband had a list of her medicine along with a brief medical history

on their table. That list may have saved her life that night.

For Mother's Day this year my husband and boys got me a basic PDA to be able to

track all of our doctor appointments and telephone numbers. The beauty of it

for me, though, is that in each of their contact listings I was able to enter in

all of their medications, dosages, and diagnoses. I put in all of my medical

history as well as that of my parents. The software allowed me to type it all

in on my laptop and then just upload it to the PDA. Now there is a record with

me always, and if necessary my family can pull it all up at home as well. I love

technology!

Long ago I created a file on the Google Docs online service

(http://docs.google.com) where I listed each medication I've ever been

prescribed. It's in a spreadsheet and each line contains the name of the med,

who prescribed it and why, when it was prescribed, whether I'm currently taking

it, what it's order # was at the local pharmacy or mail order, etc. etc. It's

easy to update and I like the fact that Google will keep the file for me forever

(in theory) so I can't inadvertently erase or lose it. Also, I can easily read

that file from any computer int the world with Internet access. I recommend it.
