Hi All

Had some friends over for dinner last night and were discussing

Kombucha. I showed them some of the Scobie I had started. When I

brought out one of the ceramic bowl to show off the fantastic Scobie

that was growing Stella made comment on the bowl. She noted that

from the pattern that probably from the mid to late 30s. In passing

she stated that at that time it was common to use lead in the glazing compound.

Is there an easy way to determine if the glazing contains lead?

I know from reading and discussions that KT will leach lead. What is

the effect of lead on the Scobie? Will the leached lead become part

of the culture and imparted to future KT batches?

This is the healthiest looking Scobie I've produced, white and

thick. I would really like to use it but would error on the side of safety.

Bill
