Guest guest
Please consider the insurance ramifications of getting genetic tests for children. Have you seen " Sicko " yet? CMT is on the list of preexisting conditions for which insurance companies will deny insurance. My husband has late onset CMT and Medicare and Cal PERS care, so he has no problems with insurance, but a four year old kid? No way is she on her last insurance or about to make decisions about getting pregnant. BTW my husband's genetic tests were all negative. The first time it was inconclusive for duplication of PMP22, but on repeating, negative. Athena says " Therefore, this individual is unlikely to be affected with, or predisposed to developing, CMT. " LOL. " However, the clinical symptoms of your patient could likely be due to sequence alterations in genes not included in this panel. " Duh. His onset was about age 60. His oldest son is 50 with " the feet " but no other symptoms. His youngest son is considering children at this point, but with no gene, he can't do anything about IVF. My husband always remembers high arches but doesn't remember when he got the hammer toes. Elinor
