Guest guest
Jess- You might want to try getting baby acidophilus powder and putting some in her formula. When Hannah had thrush and cradle cap, that helped. I doubled the infant dose. I used Jarrodophilus, but I think anything would be fine. One bottle goes a long way. It probably is available in a health food store. That should help provide her with some of the good bacteria she needs to get rid of constipation. Also, breastmilk naturally has a high water content (first milk out) that the NT formula probably doesn't have. I suggest offering her a couple of bottles of water each day. (By the way, my 2.5 year old drinks a lot of water each day - we never offer her juice. Her juice-drinking friends have many cavities. Predictably, Hannah doesn't). Dana ----- Original Message ----- From: spunkie25ga Sent: Saturday, February 09, 2002 11:01 AM Subject: help... constipated on NT milk formula... My 7 and 1/2 month old is on the NT cow's milk formula (minus acerola tablets, sunflower oil, gelatin, and lactose... due a lot to finances). She was constipated a week or so ago due to feeding her bananas. It was awful!!! I decided to take her off solids altogether to see if that would help. It helped a bit (just on formula and breastmilk), however, she is getting constipated again. She never had a problem with my milk... so I'm thinking it's got to be the formula. My sister is looking into getting goat's milk... but the problem with that is I don't know how easily I could get organic liver for it. (which also makes making the meat-based formula difficult, too) So... If anyone has any suggestions as to what I can do / feed her... I would appreciate it!!! I *really* don't want to put her on soy or commercial milk-based formula... especially since we can get such great raw milk... but I don't know what to do!!! Right now, we are taking measures to clear up her system, but I'm still feeding her the NT formula and some breastmilk as of right now. Thanks for any suggestions! Guest guest
Dana, Yeah, I definitely don't want her on juice. I'll have to try the water thing. As far as the bacteria goes, we bought some already and she's had that in it. I guess with everything else, it's not helping quite like it should. I'll try giving her water. Thanks for your help... and if anyone else has anything to add... please feel free Jess
Guest guest
Hey Jess, Goat milk is definetly a better option. Even if you can find pasturized not ultra or homogenized goat milk and then piima culture it, she may tolerate that better. In the mean time, some water may help also with every feeding get some high quality vinegar and digestive enzymes in her. More often than not the food just isn't being digested. A few days of proper digestion with high quality vinegar and enzymes should make for proper elimination. The vinegar has a good amount of acetic acid. In adults you might use betaine hydrochloride or zypan, in a child or infant, vinegar will suffice. You want UNPASTURIZED ORGANIC brown rice vinegar or the same quality apple cider vinegar. Which one to use is primarily an availability issue. As far as enzymes go there are better ones available than you will find at the health food store, however for quickness they will suffice, just go there and be sure they are in capsule form so you can just empty some into some of her food. For later if you want better quality enzymes just let me know. These are more short term solutions, you can certainly do them long term with plenty of benefit however you still need to address the food issue which it sounds like you are doing. If you have any questions email me at mmarasco@... Sincerely, Dr. Marasco,BS,DC > Dana, > > Yeah, I definitely don't want her on juice. Guest guest
In my neighborhood where I'm from in New Yawk Pawl we have special rituals for sarcastic guys.;-)))) As you might have guessed yes. Multizyme is the Rolls Royce of Enzymes, and it is made not surprisingly by Standard Process. Biotics makes a good enzyme product. Doctors Research makes a good one if I remember correctly. There is another company out of Montana that makes a good enzyme product also however I do not remember their name right now. And I'm certain that there are others out there that are good that I don't even know about. However there's Elvis and there's everybody else. There's Jordan and there's everybody else. There's SP and there's everybody else. Don't take my word for it, see for yourself. The enzyme products at the health food store are adequate, however most of the people in this particular group rarely are interested in what is " adequate " as they recognize that in this day and age " adequate " is not often adequate. In my house the only enzyme product we've used for years is Multizyme. Sorry. Guest guest
>In my neighborhood where I'm from in New Yawk Pawl we have special >rituals for sarcastic guys.;-)))) Hey, I'm a New Yawker too, so whadda ya expect, huh? ;-) I will look into Multizyme, but I've been using a product called Lipanase from AMNI (part of Laboratories). It's an 8X concentrate of pancreatin extract equivalent to 2400mg of plain pancreatin. The only thing I'm not sure about is the ingredient called pharmaceutical glaze, though I guess that's the enteric coating...? Anyway, it was the first one I tried, and it made a *radical* difference in my health. I felt a lot better, even in seemingly-unrelated areas like mood. One day when the Vitamin Shoppe was out of Lipanase I tried All-Zyme, from DaVinci Laboratories of Vermont, but I was very disappointed. It has 200mg of pancreas substance and a brew of other enzymes -- pepsin, bromelain, etc. -- and while it may have been somewhat better than nothing, it wasn't even a fraction as good as Lipanase, so I went right back to Lipanase and haven't tried anything else since. I'm not saying there aren't other, better products -- and I'd love to find them -- but I can personally vouch that Lipanase is very, very good. -
Guest guest
, If your having success with that by all means keep using it. I haven't any experience with that product. Just as an FYI though it sounds like you were in need of a significant amount of pancreatic enzymes. In my mind this is not what I was recommending for the babe and not what I recommend as a general daily enzyme product. Multizyme for example has multiple types of enzymes probably similar in makeup to the one you had from davinci. These are great for regular people everyday who typically have lousy digestion and or cook the crap out of their food. With someone in your case where pancreatin is more specifically needed. There are virtually almost always symptoms indicating this need. Usually long time carb abuse, hypoglycemia, diabetes, other blood sugar issues,etc... in that case usually I will recommend something called Zypan which is a combination pancreatin and betaine hydrochloride. I can isolate just the pancreatin however low stomach acid virtually always acompanies the above issues along with the tired pancreas so Zypan gets the call. In many cases I'll actually recommend the Zypan and the Multizyme at the same time. I didn't recommend the zypan for the infant as the vinegar will supply ample acidity for him. Much better to supply that via food. Guest guest
The main thing I would suggest is to breast feed as much as you can. I don't know your circumstances, but that is the best advice. If you do that, then you could just supplement with the goats milk. Stay away from those solids. All of my children have had constipation when new things were introduced around that age. _______________________________________________________________ Get the FREE email that has everyone talking at http://www.mail2world.com <-----Original Message-----> > > From: spunkie25ga > Sent: 2/9/2002 7:01:31 PM > > Subject: help... constipated on NT milk formula... > > > > > > My 7 and 1/2 month old is on the NT cow's milk formula (minus acerola > > tablets, sunflower oil, gelatin, and lactose... due a lot to > > finances). Guest guest
You really need to add the gelatin and the lactose to the formula. They can both be purchased from Radiant Life 888-593-8333. Also, what kind of milk are you using. If the milk is too low in fat, it can be constipating. Add some cream and see if this works. Also, there is a digsetive tea for baby that works for constipation in NT. Sally

Oh, no question about it. The fact that the supplement helps so much is proof enough of that. >There are virtually almost always symptoms indicating this >need. Long-time high-carb eating and severe hypoglycemia as well as serious hypothyroidism -- check! <g> >in that case usually I will recommend >something called Zypan which is a combination pancreatin and betaine >hydrochloride. I've been meaning to try a betaine hydrochloride supplement, and this just gives me more resolve. I have a pretty good stock of Lipanase at the moment, so I'll get a plain betaine HCL supplement first and see how that works. Thanks for the info! -
Guest guest
We are using raw cow's milk from Jersey or Guernsey cows. Unfortunately, we have yet to find any cream that is not ultrapasturized. (we are still researching) I'm also researching how to get goats milk and liver to try that formula. Unfortunately, we still are dealing with a financial issue here (hence why not all ingredients are in the formula). What is the nutritional value of gelatin? Thanks, Jess
Guest guest
Jess, Why can't you use the cream from the top of your raw milk?
