Guest guest
Hi , He didn't tell me not to have kids specifically but I do remember him reminding me how I had told my Mom that I wished I hadn't been born. I felt badly about that but as I recall the particular incident he referred to occurred when I was 14 here in L.A. at Orthopaedic Hosp. after I had been poked and prodded by less than sensitive interns and had my feet and legs photographed by some strange ( and again insensitive) medical photographer for some purpose which I can no longer recall. My poor mother just took the brunt of my frustration. He later did triples on both my feet/ankles (at 15). By the way I did not take his implied advice, I have 3 sons, 30, 27 and 21 and none appear to have CMT so far. We shall see. I have to say that Dr. Stryker was kind to me and I believe a good technician but I always left his office feeling sort of hopeless. There was always the notion that there was nothing to be done to improve one's quality of life and I found that pretty hard to swallow. Of course, I wanted to be completely cured and never hear the words Charcot Marie Tooth again... What I have gained from this group and from my own trial and error " research " over the years is that there are many things to be done, from AFOs to better shoes to Vitamin C etc. Anyway I didn't really mean to go on so much - to answer your original question he never said that to me but that message was communicated. kIM
