water filters - basic requirements?

Hi everyone,

My head is flooded with information about water filtering systems and I have no

idea how to begin assembling all this. The information is great and I

appreciate having access to everyone's experience and knowledge through this

list.

However, I would really like some general guidelines, basic requirements or tips

and recommendations that will allow me to make a an informed decision about a

water filtering system.

If any of you could provide a bullet list of requirements, or any sort of

organized information about this, along with recommended brands - I think that

all of us would greatly benefit.
