Hello everyone. Does anyone suffer from restless leg syndrome? I am

sure that anyone who suffers from it can relate to the frustration of

the condition. I shake the legs, rub the legs and get up may times

throughtout the night to walk to help relieve the symptom. I would

rather not take anymore medications at this point. Does anyone have

any suggestions to help relieve the symptoms? I have read that soaking your

feet in warm water helps as well as an allergy medication. I have tried soaking

my feet in warm water and that does seem to help. But it is an inconvenience to

do this when you are half asleep. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, was wondering if anyone thought that it could be related to the spine

since it mainly occurs when we are at rest and trying to sleep.

Thanks to all that reply.

Hi Teri -

My son has CMT and swears that he has RLS as well. We haven't had

it diagnosed officially but from what I've read and observe I think

he's right. To help him with the " twitchy - itchy's " as we call

them - (his legs are constantly moving when he is in a sitting

position, and he's actually fallen out of bed from having the urge

to move his legs so frequently) we've found for him, that a warm

bath has always helped. Then we started using Dead Sea Salts and

they have quieted down the symptoms even further. It's not unusual

to find him in the tub at midnight trying to beat the sensation.

We started using the Dead Sea Salts to treat his chronic psoriasis

(and it helps tremendously) so I suggested that everytime he bathes

he uses them. I don't know why they work- maybe it's mind over

matter, but he swears it helps.

Just a suggestion.

Teri,

I take Vit E for this. I have tried both natural and synthetic and I find the

natural is much better. I told my Dr. and he thought I was nuts but, it is what

it is. I take it twice a day 400 IU's for each dose, and I take them after I

eat.

Yes, I understand the frustration. Nothing like your legs moving without you

telling them. The Vit E works great for me. If you do decide to try you will

need to take for about month before you will see any benefits.

Hi,

I was having problems with restless legs. The first of the year, I

went to PT for my back. As my back improved, the restless legs

disappeared. If you have issues with your back, you might check into

PT.

Hi Christa, it's Teri from Millville. OH YES!!! Restless legs!!! Aren't they

fun! They best way I can describe it is you HAVE to move your legs even if you

are so tired you cannot keep your eyes open!! Sometimes I get weird sensations

in them too like stuff crawling around in there! It is very frustrating!! I

use to only get it at night but I get it sometimes just trying to sit on the

couch and watch TV. It seems to be progressing.

Teri,

Thank you so much for your help. I do have some of the symptoms you have except

that I notice it at work. You said that you

are from Millville. What state is that in? Write back and tell me more about

yourself.

I have RLS. I really don't like the having to move my legs all night

long. I am so tired all the time. I did go to my GP about a month ago &

she gave me a sample pack of Requip. Medical Assistance denied my

prescription for this medication. I have been fighting with the drs

office about finding an alternative. Atleast they gave me 3 sample packs in the

meantime. I'd be so miserable without something. It was getting so bad that I

was having problems just sitting down.

Christy,

I am in PA. About 20 minutes from ville. I am a 37 YOF married with a

almost 19 year old son. Have chronic Lyme disease and CMT 1b. Lots of other

funky stuff due to the conditions but it is bearable at this point in my life.

I work at a Chiropractors office part-time. Used to work at a job

full time but had to give it up due to the leg issues and fatigue. I had

suffered with the leg weakness, numbness and tingling and muscle spasms for

about a year or more before I was diagnosed with CMT this past December.

My nephew and I have the same type. He recently had surgery to correct his

ankle. He is doing well. So far compared to others I have the lesser symptoms.

My biggest complaint is the weakness in my legs and the fatigue.

So what about you?

Hi Christa, my dad complained for as long as I can remember about

having the " jim-jams " -- that's what his family had named it. He

described it exactly like the symptoms of RLS with an uncontrollable

urge to move his legs around and a feeling like things were crawling

along the nerves. He often would try to will himself still as it was

causing my mother much aggravation at night but he would feel like he

would explode if he didn't move. One thing he found gave him relief was

to sleep in a cool room and put at least one leg out into the cool air.

That seemed to calm it right down. It only happens a few times a week

for a few hours or so.

Recently, I've been experiencing a similar sensation while driving or

watching tv. It is an almost uncontrollable urge to jiggle around and

move your legs. I haven't been sufficiently annoyed yet to do anything

about it. It always goes away eventually.
