Hi all,

Most of you know that I had ankle fusion surgery in January and that

I've had to deal with an inflamation of the ankle since then. It turns out that

the ankle pain was a result of the swelling that is a

sometime after effect of the surgery. I found that if I bind the ankle tight in

a high cut boot it can swell and I feel very little pain.

We are in the middle of a heat wave here, and Thursday we decided to

go to the mountains to escape the heat ( rather than spend all day

watching judge shows.) Feeling good I decided to hike a nature trail

with my daughter who would have taken us down the side of a pretty

big hill to the basin of a waterfall. I had my hi-tek walking stick

and stuff and set off.

About 2/3 of the way there the trail got really rocky and was doing quite a

number on my ankle, my legs were getting rubbery too, so I turned around and

started back- 2/3 of the way back uphill. I made it with little problem other

than stopping every coupla hundred yards to catch my breath.

Since then feel the burn is grossly inadequate means of describing the state of

my legs, they throb. They throb a little less each day but oh gosh I haven't

felt like this since I had Jim Fixx fantasies.

The other cool thing in my life is when I got back from destroying my

legs, there was a message from the head hunters that I have been

offered a writing job. Looks like I'll be leaving SSI and going back

to work.

Keep on pluggin

Ed
