Guest guest
Hello Ruth! As for using a wheelchair, I was like you. I had so much fear about getting one. I had always told myself that that wasn't going to happen to me! Well, I got bronchitis, and became very weak, and had to get one. Before that I had been using crutches for 14 years, and a four wheel scooter for trips. I think a scooter is great for outside, but the power wheelchair is much better for around the house. The hardest part of using a wheelchair for me is...I am single, and wanting to find that special man that can see beyond my disability. I have joined some dating sites, and have had great responses, until I mention the wheelchair. Maybe that was my biggest fear about using the wheelchair was that people would see me differently! I am still very active, work, do most things, but men just can't seem to handle that darn wheelchair or disability. I am slowly working through that, as you will also work through using a wheelchair. It has made my life so much easier for getting around, saving my energy, and not having all the pain from trying to walk. One big caution....at first the wheelchair has a mind of it's own! It ran me into all my furniture, vehicle, and walls! LOL I had the dealer come back and slow the speed down so I wouldn't go so fast! If others out there are also facing dating with a disability please let me know how you are handling it? You can also use my direct email at, omega@.... Have a great day!
