I can totally relate with you, Amy. What's worse are my spider veins suddenly

appearing in the back of the knee area. What's with that? I exercise daily and

am not over weight but I cannot do the bicycle at the gym. I can walk two

miles easily but can't bicycle more than five minutes without my thighs burning

BADLY. (The kind of pain that tells you something is not right, not just

because you are out of shape.) I didn't think CMT progressed up to the thighs

but does anyone know differently? How does CMT know where to stop?

Amy, hi,

I have always had a small " indent " on the bottom of the peroneal

muscle, but from horsebackriding, bike riding, and aquatics workout,

have built up surrounding muscle. Same thing with my thighs too. I

think Pilates and backwards bicycling has firmed my thighs.

I know your recovering from the broken leg and caring for 2 small

children, but I hope you can look into some exercise program (with

your doctor's blessing and hopefully guided by a knowledgeable PT at

first - maybe Yoga or Pilates is a good place to start)

Hi Amy,

I used to have the " stork leg look " when I was younger but now my

legs are swelling, water gain I guess. But my thighs look like that

when I stand.

Amy,

I have had significant loss of muscle mass in my legs. It is scary because I

have noticed (many other people have noticed as well) that I have lost muscle in

my upper legs.

So know you aren't alone. This path that we are on with this disease can be

scary and sometimes feel lonely. Although I don't post often, I read the posts

everyday and it helps me to see what others are going through and not feel so

alone. I intend to try to get better about posting.

Karon,

CMT can progress. Mine is the worst in the quads (they are considered paralyzed

with just a trace of muscle) and my hips are affected also, although I have a

more severe form of CMT. Most people with CMT experience the foot drop and

balance issues, where mine seems to be progressing furthur than that, so not to

worry!

Sorry to hear that Jackie. Right when I think my CMT has stopped for a while,

it rears its ugly head. My hands and arms are free from

symptoms now...my legs, especially the left are getting worse. What's

worse is that I am almost in menopause (will it ever come?!) so I have

new weird symptoms to deal with also. It gets confusing at times as

to what is causing what!! Best of luck to you!

 Karon:)
