Guest guest
Bethanne-- Depending on where you are in southern VT, Shelburne MA may be closer than wherever you're getting your raw milk. I'd look at a map and see. I can pass on the farm's phone # if MA ends up a better option. Dana-- Here's a suggestion about diapers. There's a book called " Trickle Treat " --I know it's a stupid title, but it's about the diaper-free toilet training practices that parents use in India. The woman who wrote it is so enthusiastic about it that she'll take personal phone calls if you have problems using the method. Apparently in many traditional societies, infants are pretty much toilet trained at 6 weeks! True, they can't get to the bathroom on their own, but they can communicate enough to tell you when they need to get there. Sound unlikely? Read the book is all I can say. I don't have children so I have no personal experience with this, but it's worth looking into. I don't know a thing about breastfeeding and solid food except a story in my family about my brother, who started eating solid food when he was 10 days old. All he did was cry for the first 10 days of his life. He was my mom's first baby, and she was only 21. She was brestfeeding--and in 1963 this was so rare that the hospital had all student nurses observe her because they'd never seen it! Needless to say, with a baby crying non-stop she was at her wits end. Finally an older, experienced mother told her, " The only thing wrong with that child is that he's hungry. Give him some solid food. " My mom called the doctor who was very exasperated with her at this point. He said basically " Fine, give him some cereal, but don't give him more than a Tbs. " My brother ate a quarter cup! And then slept for 16 hours! You have to wonder about the quality of the breast milk if it was leaving him hungry when he only weighed 7 pounds. Then again, he is now 6'4 " tall. Lierre __________________________________________________
