Dear ,

You made a good point about just teaching him and doing the best I can.

But he has a huge developmental delay. (I must not have made myself clear

before.) He is in my class because I teach children with problems. You are

probably right though. He probably doesn't need to have a diagnosis. That's

just another thing for his parents to worry about. My concern was that later

on in life, if he were to have children, they would have a high chance of

being DS. (If the cell that helps give life to the egg is a trisomy one, the

baby will be DS.) What if I'm the only person who sees that there's a

possibility of this, and do nothing about it? I'm having a hard time with

this one.

Thanks for helping me think this one through.

Kris...

i think all us moms need to try to force ourselves not to compare our kids...

ya know, if you put a room full of full DS or MDS kids together, some are

going to have more abilities than others, some will have higher IQ's than

others, some will have more delays than others.... and its exactly the same

with our " normal " kids! So I try to remind myself of that when i feel those

lil twinges of jealousy or frustration. Earlier this year, I'm in college,

and found out a lady in my class had a son with full Downs, he was one year

older than (both named too!) and she was going on and on about

how well he was READING and doing MATH, and keeping up in school... etc.,

but my can't even spell his name or recognize all his numbers and

letters... that kinda hurt. While you're waiting for the testing to see

if shes full downs or MDS, try not to get caught up in the myth that an MDS

diagnosis always means a higher functioning child. Thats what the Dr.s told

me when was diagnosed...and unfortunately I believed them. Only regret

at this point is not having taught him some sign language when he was

smaller. He was so frustrated not being able to communicate with us. But

hey.. the Drs said he'd be 'higher functioning'!

Keep us posted on her testing!

From my understanding..and i could be wrong... MDS *IS* different, and the

males are NOT always sterile. I believe females with full DS generally have

a 50/50 chance of having children, but again, MDS doesn't fit that

generalization.

Anyone else hear otherwise?

It's my understanding that boys with DS are almost always unable to have children. Is this different for MDS?

Thanks.

, I thank you, and I also say, "Why NOT Jonas?" Some good news today. Bob and I took him to the follow up clinic to see the neonatologist group that took care of him in the NICU for his first 22 days, and he is doing better than any other child they have ever had with Down's Syndrome ever. They "graduated him" and said that they would very much like to see Jonas again, but for purely selfish reasons. :) So that is one doctor group we no longer have to follow up with. Bob and I and Jonas were able to visit with so many folks who were so helpful and dear to us as we were there day after day waiting for Jonas to be ready to come home to us. I was speaking to one doctor who was asking me many questions about his heart and how it is doing etc. I told him the VSD hole in his heart has closed and that he is really stable and on no meds. I also told him about my encounter with Jonas' heart doctor and that nothing would ever stop us from praying for the second hole to close also. He had a tear in his eye when he told me that Jonas was already a miracle. We took the best chocolate we could buy for them and belated thank you letters and cards for the most special ones who were our strength, and the stuff that angels are made of for our Jonas. We saw two of the 4 doctors in the NICU group today, and they both scoffed at the idea that God has more important things to worry about than the babies they coax into survival there. They are seeing miracles each day! It was a nice day for us and we felt really bessed and reassured to have the doctors tell us that Jonas is doing as well as we think he is! (We did not give them the cocolate etc until we were leaving, so we are sure it did not sway their opinions.) Thank you for the prayers... so much! Love, Barb Martz Jonas' Mommy 37y.o. a, Bob and I have been talking and thinking of adding a speech therapist for Jonas, and after reading your post I am going to call tomorrow and do it! I want to do better about teaching sign to Jonas, but I do not really know it myself, and so I am finding it hard to force myself to make the time in an already crowded day for learning and teaching basic signs to Jonas. Not only that, but it does always seem that my hands are full of something when I am trying to sign. I try to sign "eat", and while I am doing so, Jonas throws the spoon and jar of food on the floor. I try to say, "More?" in sign to him and he sticks his whole hand in the dish of food, and may also fling it to the floor. How do I say, "Mommy FRUSTRATED?" :) I am happy to hear that Brannon is warming up to the therapists a bit better. I know he will get better and better at this. I do not know how you are managing to get off to work with the new baby and Brannon, but I commend you for it. Telemarketing is not easy, and you certainly have a good spirit about it. I wish you continued success with it. Kisses & Hugs to your dear ones! Many Blessings to You, Barb Martz Mom to Jonas 18 mo (MDS) & 7 (no subject) Congrads to Tim and !I love hearing good news.Brannon did real well today w/ his speech therapist. I was impressed that he actually cooperated with her today. He signed socks and shoe. He tried to say shoe. His fave word is Bu-bye. He did real good and I was proud of him. I love when the therapist sings "the wheels on the bus" he does all the motions. He looks so cute doing them. you asked about my new job. It's fun. I work at Fairfield Resorts and I call people to sell vacation packages. So if I call you please buy one. hahahaha =)I sold 2 the other night so they gave me this SAT off w/ pay. This is my kind of job. I work 430-930 pm. My husband gets home from work at 4 pm so I head straight to work as soon as he gets home. Luckily we get the weekend together. I only have to work every other Sat which is nice.Thanx for askinga Mom to Brannon w/mds and GabbyGod is a little like Hallmark cards.~ He cared enough to send the very best.Won't you please consider adding your personal story on the MDS website today? http://www.mosaicdownsyndrome.com*************************************************MDS MESSAGE BOARD - http://www.mosaicdownsyndrome.com/discus*************************************************

Sometimes in life, you find a special friend;

Someone who changes your life

just by being part of it.

Someone who makes you laugh

until you can't stop;

Someone who makes you believe

that there really is good in the world.

Someone who convinces you

that there really is an unlocked door

just waiting for you to open it.

This is Forever Friendship.

This is the sacred RED ROSE.

You MUST pass this rose on to at least 5 people within the hour of receiving

this rose.

After you do, make a wish.

If you have passed it on, your wish will come true and love will come your way

shortly.

If not your life will stay the same as it has always been.

Just be nice & pass it on....May we all be loved so much.

Friend if I don't get this back I can take a hint!

How many people actually have 8 true friends? Hardly anyone I know! But some of

us have all right friends and good friends!!!

You have been Tagged by the YELLOW bird!

Which means you are a great friend!!

Send this to 8 people or more and if this is sent back to you then you know that

you are a true friend...!
