WOOHOO!! Kudos to your son! My kids have been playing basketball with the

neighborhood rec-center for years.... you have nothing to worry about.

Basketball is probably one of the safer sports as far as physical injuries ( my

opinion). What a great sport - I'm sure he'll have a great time!

Yea, ! I'm so happy for him! These things that other parents take

for granted are really savored by us.

Here's my problem--when my daughter has something big like that (right

now she's in the Nutcracker for ballet in December and there are tons of

practices to prepare), I always feel a bit panicky inside, wondering if

she's going to make it through. Do others feel that way? It's been a 4

yr. roller coaster ride of ups and down and I feel like I never know

what's going to happen with my DD. Will she make it through the

recital? Will she be able to get to all the practices required? Etc,

etc. I hope everything goes great for him!

My good news!

Hi All,

I just love to read your success stories and wanted to share my

exciting news, too! My son , 11, who was so bad with OCD last

year - almost debilitating - was one of 5 sixth graders who just made

his school basketball team. There is one team for the entire middle

school and 5 sixth graders were chosen out of 60 who tried out.

Always protective, I was a little nervous when I heard he had made it

because I don't want it to be too much for him, but I think it will be

a really good thing. He was overwhelmed last night, but this morning

was really excited and I think his self-confidence was boosted a huge

amount.

The thing that made me feel so, so good is that he is really good, but

there are definitely boys I think are better that didn't make it. The

coach said although there were some a little better in some areas,

they saw his all around potential and what they could do with him with

the right coaching. That's how I view all of our children - with

amazing potential that can be brought out when they receive the bits

of help they need.

Thanks for letting me share.

My dd is 5 and this past summer she did a week long camp to be in a dance

production of the Wizard of Oz. Being on the very young end of the group, she -

and all the kids her age- was given a group part, no singing or lines, just

group dances - which she was fine with. She was SOOOO nervous and had a very

hard time going to camp each day. This was also the first time she was away

from home for such a big part of the day every day (10-2). She wanted to quit,

but I wouldnt let her. One the last day, the day of the play, she was so

nervous, she was almost vomitting. But I knew she had to do it, things would be

worse if she didnt complete it. She did fine, had fun, and said she wanted to

do it again next summer. FOR HER, it was the right thing to push her and not

let her quit. Mainly because it was only a week, if it were longer, I dont know

what I would have done. Also, this was the first time she had done something

like this and she needed to complete it and see that is CAN be fun and it WOULD

be OK. I think we all know our children best and know when to push and when to

back off.
