I have a 7 year old PDD son. Very aggressive and physical also. He

is on risperdal and it has helped tons. How long has your son been on

the abilify? My son's doctor wants my son to try abilify also. I'm

not sure of the different between abilify and risperdal besides they

are both anti-psychotics.

We have an appt. with the psychiatrist in the morning.

She's a woman doctor and I'm pretty happy with her so far. No doctor

is perfect although if there is an emergency she has a cell phone

number I could try and most times gets back to me right away if she

feels necessary.

I would honestly call you doctor right now. Tell him/her exactly

what's going on. Especially if your son has gotten worse. Usually

the psychiatrists want updates a day or so after the kids start a new

med. Have you talked to the doctor since your son started the

abilify? When my son was so out of control at home we tried the

risperdal. It was like a miracle happened, we all had a little bit of

life back. You will know if the med's are working. You have to call

though because nobody is going to know how fast they work and get into

the system....etc.

Also, ever since I had kids 15 yrs. ago. I always worried that my

phone calls to the doctor after hours may not be important enough to

bother them. Well, I've gotten over that. I call them anytime. This

is serious, you call them and tell them you are worried for your son's

safety and tell them the way it is and what's happening. Please post

again and let us know what's going on. You could send private emails

also.

I wish my son had a doctor like yours, I left her a message on

Wendsday and Friday she contacted me and we have an appointment at

childrens hospital on Monday. He was on Risperdal also but it made

him really agressive also so when he was seen at the bahavior clinic

at Childrens Hospital they switched him to Abilify that was June of

this year. So he has been on it for 6 months and it worked for about

1 month and then it just started getting worse. He gets immune to

medicane really quickly or they do the opposite. My son also has PDD

and adhd and defiant disorder with the Aspergers. He does not go to

School He does internet school. The Phyciatrist he see's doesnt

listen to a word i say. In July he broke my bone under my eye and she

just brushed it off, well since then i pass out and everything and

thats the same place he punched me the other day.So Monday when i see

her i am demanding something to be done. Me and my husband are close

to a divorce, and my daughter is never home because my son is abusive

to her.

Hi Tamara,

I wonder now that you wrote if my son is getting used to the

risperdal. We've been having behavior problems at school where it

seems the med's don't even work anymore at times.

Honestly, we could have a perfect day and then the next could be

terrible with lots of aggression. Your son broke your bone in your

face? That is terrible. Maybe you should try another psychiatrist?

Living in our house could be very stressful. It's like everyone has

their day and then if the 7 yr. old starts having a yelling

fit...forget it. It's ridiculous. Honestly, I'm trying to get really

firm with my son. I could only do one thing at a time. I'm trying to

deal with the hitting right now. No treats if he hits. NOTHING. I

would go in a store and give him almost anything he wanted. Today I

would not get him an ice cream, candy, toy, NOTHING. He was really

mad and I got kicked and hit and everything.

My husband threatened to leave one time because he couldn't take it

anymore. He's also ran out when my teenager had an episode of rage.

I was like " BYE " . He came back though, it was a really long story,

not all his fault. I would love to run away at times. But I refuse

to let this family have it's way. If anyone wants to leave they could

go. They are all spoiled and do practically nothing around the house

to help. My house looks like a tornado went through it most of the

time.

Anyway, I'm getting off track and talking too much.

Hang in there and let us know what the doctor says tomorrow.

Hi ,

Im firm with him we have a stick system if he is good all day and no

school problems and no behavior problems then he gets a stick wich is

worth a dollar, but if he is bad then he gets a stick taken away. I

know were your coming from if My son doesn't get what he wants he

does the same thing to me, i am so sorry to hear that happened.I know

my house looks like a tornado too, no one helps here also, its like

im super mom i can do everything, but this is reallity. My husband

has threatned to leave also and i have told him " bye " on several

occasions but he never left. My son were he does the online schooling

i am his teacher, even though he goes into like a chat room each day

for an hour with his teacher im left with all the teaching and its

rough. When he was in 2nd grade attending public school the school

was just terrible they wanted to send him to alternative school for

bad kids and thats why he is no longer attending public school. They

tryed him on Tenex and it had no affect on him. But everyone is

different when it comes to med's. Well i will let you know what the

doctor says tomorow.

Hi e,

Thank you for your prayer. Were hanging in there. Out of the 11 years

we have been together, we have been threw allot in our relationship.

Hi Pat,

My husband is so against counseling. We have great communication, its

just everyone is under so much stress right now. Its like walking on

egg shells in my house. But we will get thew it, it will take

sometime but we have been threw allot in our relationship and were

still together.

Hi Y,

Ty for the feedback, I have read from alott of people that Abilify

has made aggression worse in their child. I brought that up to his

Doctor and she is like no that Abilify is to treat agression. But

like i told her my son is getting worse so she increases his amount

of medicane and his aggression got even more worse. He has an

appointment tommorow so i will let you know what happens.
