Guest guest
Anita, Welcome to the group. I live on the Nipomo Mesa, so we are practically neighbors. A physical therapist from San Sports Therapy named Toni Oliver, recently evaluated my AFOs. I was involved in a " study " to see which of three AFOs worked best for me. She was very knowledgeable about CMT and gait issues. Although she said there was nothing she could do to strengthen my feet, she did give me some exercises to help with other muscles that have become weak due to the way I walk (I have a lot of trouble walking up stairs, for instance and she showed me some exercises that will strengthen some of the good muscles). I am 57, and was diagnosed last November. I have not found a very good doctor around here (I had to go to UCSF for the diagnosis), so if you have any tips on local doctors, even in Santa Barbara or Los Angeles, I would appreciate it. If your husband gets to the point where he thinks AFOs will benefit him, I can highly recommend Rick Feldman from Nobbe Orthopedics. He works out of their Santa office. Their main office is in Santa Barbara. I tried Hangers in San Obispo and was very disappointed. Keep in touch. My direct email is n.warren@...
