Guest guest
Hi Jean- I've been in that predicament before too. I keep my shoes on and I make sure the bottoms are clean. Go in and enjoy the party. I do hope you had a nice afternoon. Barb
Guest guest
HI Can wear two pair of socks one pair over your AFOs? My son does that a lot. This all goes back to the topic of keeping friends once you meet them. Not everyone understands.
Guest guest
I usually find some slippers that I can wear over the AFOs. I bring those with and put them on. My problem is trying to take the shoes off without sitting down. I tend to fall over standing on one foot. Hope you had a good time. Let me know how it went. Guest guest
I encountered something similar recently at the LA County Museum of Art. They had a white room that you needed to take your shoes off to enter. It was worth doing it to experience the room. I don't wear AFOs though, so I can take my shoes off for short walks like the above exhibit. Years ago my sister in law had a no shoes requirement in her new yuppie palace. When we'd visit I'd take my fuzzy house slippers to change into. Fortunately she replaced all the white carpet with faux wood floors, and allows shoes again. I thought that a box of surgical shoe covers would be good for her to have. perhaps you could carry a box of your own, and just slip them over your shoes at the door? Guest guest
Well here's ther outcome... I arrived at the home and everyone had their shoes on. I felt relieved. Of course I received a few quizitive looks as they could see my AFOs at the ankles. I mentioned that it was a mountain bike accident. One of them started to ask me all kinds of questions about mountain biking and where I go, what kind of bike I have, and so on. Good thing I mountain bike so I could at least sound like it really was a mountain bike accident. Pretty funny. My girl friend who I went with, she just sat there and laughed as she knew the real reason for the AFOs. Needless to say, I made a friend thanks to the cute comment of a sport I love. Guest guest
Hey Barb, Do you ever ask permission from the host? Or do you just keep them on and not say anything? I'm kind of wondering what the proper thing to do is. I don't want to iritate the host, yet I don't feel like I need to make excuses either, if you know what I mean. Guest guest
I would just politely say I've got to keep my shoes on b/c I wear leg braces. Most of the time I'm wearing shorts so it's pretty obvious. I am dangerous to myself w/o my AFOs. Oh heck, I can be dangerous even with them on. Guest guest
I always slip on those wood floors. We have a wood floor by our front door. I just hate to hear the bell ring when I don't have shoes on.
