Starting a new Scoby without a mother?

Yes, you can. This stuff is strong and willing to grow.

I tried it with some wide mouth 8 ounce jars, and in

all of them I now have a strong little " pancake " busily

working away. I can now stick them into a larger jar,

and they will grow to match the new jars' width.
