Guest guest
Hey guys, Sometimes we can get noticed POSITIVELY for our disability, and not just negatively. There's always going to be someone stupid or ignorant enough that they're gonna put you down to make themselves feel better. But that happens to EVERYONE! The people in your life worth having are the ones that support you. Everyone needs this. It doesn't matter if you have a disability or not. The way I figure it, everyone has some sort of " disability " , but ours are visible. Some people are terrified to try new things--that's a disability. Some people can't get over themselves--that's a disability. Some people suffer from verbal diarrhea! Another disability. (Perhaps one that I also suffer from ) So go out there and find something you really enjoy. It doesn't matter what it is, really. For me, it's horse back riding. And, yes, there have been plenty that want to coddle me and protect me and not let me do anything (and I realize that even they are doing this because they care... it just comes out funny)... But there are so many more that are supporting and loving and encourage me to push myself. I've earned attention because I have a disability and I have fun and break the stereotypical mold. I've gained a reputation out at the barn for being 'stubborn' (affectionately, of course), because I always ask if I can do more. Can I trot one more centerline? Can I jump one more jump of jumps? And I'm proud to be stubborn. Find something you enjoy. I think you'll find that the people who are rude to you, might learn something. They might learn that we are more than just a disability. We are strong, intelligent, witty people. And if someone can't see that, it's their loss. Liz
